Angry Time zones and the recent changes (again)

I did a quick search and couldn't find the answer I was after so here goes:

I'm in Melbourne, Australia and have a number of BB users. One of the most aggravating issues is that Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney and Hobart are all on the same time zone due to the recent Daylight Savings Time changeover date alterations.

The BB has two time zones: "Hobart (GMT +10)" & "Canberra, Sydney (GMT +10)" as they used to be different. Melbourne should be the same as Canberra and Sydney (the second largest city in Australia doesn't get a listing?). So... the "Canberra, Sydney" TZ is now incorrect from a DST standpoint. To get around this all Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne users have set their TZ to "Hobart" which fixes things.

... until they synch their BB with their PC. Regardless of the BB's time settings (network, Blackberry, etc.) it attempts to grab the Windows TZ (Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney) and then switches to the nearest match (the incorrect Can., Syd. TZ).

So every time they synch, their BB is out by an hour and they have to go and constantly set the TZ to Hobart.

Is it possible to make a custom time zone file or is there an update for me to apply to the phones?

Disable the option to sync the BlackBerry's time to the PC's time. It's an option in the sync settings on the PC. Set the BlackBerry's time source to Network.

I was so blinded by the incorrect TZ if totally forgot to dig around for that.

I feel totally sheepish now.

Thanks Jeff. I'll send you my first-born in the next available shipping container.

No problem. It's the little stuff that confounds us. As Norman Augustine put it: Seldom are we plagued by lions. More often we suffer the ignominy of being eaten by ducks. -- Norman Augustine, "Augustine's Laws"
