Default Recording Calls

So, I've done a bit of searching and am I to really believe that blackberry explicitly blocks the recording of calls?

How can a device market itself as business oriented, when it not only fails, but goes out of its way to block support of any sort of rudimentary non-repudiation policy? I was hoping to implement a policy that recording all calls forwarded from clients. (There have been some recent issues, with clients placing emergency-status orders and then denying after-the-fact.)

Meh, I guess I’m just venting, but seriously RIM, it’s kinda silly to reject a basic information security principle out of hand. (Yeah I know about the "potential for abuse," but that is a bad argument.)

If someone writes or finds a program that records customers issues then I am a safer driver.
Please let me know about this if it comes out, anyone.
Thanks in Advance!

I called T-Mobile about this awhile back when I was still on G1 because the recorder on that handset only records one direction - but you can't get a recording of the opposite party(ies) on the line, only yourself. I thought that surely the app was broken but the rep informed me that due to the privacy laws no applications were being made for 2-way recording. It seems that there is a law that you need to notify the other party(ies) if you intend to record them.

(this is gonna sound snarky and I apologize, but the "you might commit an illegal act" is just... it just pisses me off)

Crank calls are illegal, yet my phone has the ability to make phone calls. It is not illegal flatly illegal to record calls, even without the other party's permission (depending on the situation) and it is never a criminal issue.

However, non-repudiation is a huge concern in business... having zero support for this is just stupid. I'd even be happy if blackberry locked the functionality to their own app that broadcast a notice of the fact that the call is being recorded... something, anything.

That's probably because Congress uses Blackberries...and we all know that THEY DON'T want to be recorded...
