Default BIS v BES in corp environ

I'm a newbie, so forgive me if this seems idiotic, but here goes:

VZ store set me up on BIS, but I work for Lincoln Financial and corporate has a BES set-up. Do I have to call verizon and be on BES (vs current BIS) to get corp. Outlook emails, etc. pushed to my BB 8330? I have the activation code from our IT dept, but when I tried entering under options/advanced options/ enterpriseactivation, it tried activating three times and then I got "The server is not responding. Please contact your System Admin" error message

I thought I could get away with BIS and connect to corp BES. Am I wrong?

Some IT departments block this at the firewall. BES is typically quicker than BIS in the corporate environment, it also allows IT to control the berry and wipe it if it is lost or stolen.

Call VZ and make sure your BB is enabled for both Enterprise and Prosumer on their relay
Also Activation password only lasts 48hours so may need to get your IT to reset a new activation code

BES is definitely preferred, and it is absolutely possible to do both BES and BIS,although you'll want to make sure not for the same account - sorry if that sounds obvious, I see it quite often. If your company is blocking BIS you would still be able to activate and then it would not work after activation. First thing to check is to be sure you have the necessary data package for BES. Also, you'll want to confirm the email address BES recognizes, if your company has aliases (ex. jdoe and john.doe) then only one will actually work. And lastly, like redgav said, may need the password reset (although, 48 hours is just the default and it can be altered up to 720, or the default can even be altered - but you may as well ask them to put it up to a a higher number while you figure it out). Good luck, that server not responding can be a pain, seeing as how it gives such great detail....

Follow up question:

I used BES for years with former employer, but have left them to start my own business. I am the only employee. I am going to set up a MS Exchange account. I know I can access my email accounts with BIS, but will I need BES to access calendar and contacts? Will BIS do that?

Thanks.

You can do a desktop sync to get your contacts and calendars, but yes BIS will only do email. There are some pretty decently priced hosted BES products out there if you really want BES, I'd do it if I had the cash.

Thanks for the info. I am using desktop sync now but am considering doing BES again so I can have calendar/contact access when I travel.
