Map without data plan

Yes both Google Maps and BB Maps work without BB Data Plan although you do need a GPRS/EDGE data plan.

Tried this on my BB 8800 today I put in my other sim card with standard data enabled on it , not BB, and the maps worked fine.

I had the same question, but the concern is....does this count as web access time when using the map? It has to get the data from somewhere specific...without a data plan it would be charged? No? My friend with the Pearl says thats not the case, but others *think* it would.

I have a pearl with bb maps and i can use my regular wap service (navigate package) to download the maps without a data package. But it only seems to work with the 4.2.0.67 version of firmware. Also, rmember blackberry's are ment to use the data plans so using wap can be very fidgity. Doesnt always work smooth. Hope that helps!

I have curve 8900. I can access internet with my browser through my router or any open router. Thus can download the data. I have downloaded the Google maps. But, blackberry would not let the software open, even though I am in the vicinity of hot spot. I used to be able to open it when I was subscribing to the data plan. Now no more.
I should be able to access any third party application. It is very mean of blackberry and TMo, to block the applications.

MGMaps allows you to store the map files you need on your MicroSD card, and use your GPS receiver, irrespective of your data plan arrangements.

That's a very subjective question. I like to use it because it has some features that are absent on other similar map programs. Why don't you try it out, the link is in my signature.

Alternatively, here's their website, Mobile GMaps - View maps from various sources on your mobile phone!

The developers regularly monitor the user forums and are quick to help in solving a lot of common problems and implementing bug fixes in unoffiicial releases.

Yes, if you have a 1GB MicroSD card. ;p

You can get zoom level 16 maps of a large metropolitan area in about 1.5 GB.

But in offline mode I can't use any of the search functions or get directions from just the stored maps in offline mode. Is this normal????

What are alternatives? I want to be able to view maps and get directions without the data plan or any internet connections if possible?
