Default OTA podcasting?

I am leaving for a trip out of the country and of course, the two weeks before I leave my internet goes spotty. I can't hold a connection for more than a few seconds so I've been using my BB for all internet purposes.

I will be spending many hours while travelling. I'm looking at several hours in the plane to get to New YorkN then seven hours in JFK and about eight or so across the ocean to Europe. Music and books can only last so long! I want to listen to podcasts but I can't get them onto my iPod as the net isn't downloading them.

So my question is - does anyone know of a FREE app that can download podcasts OTA? That way at least I could have them on my BB.

Thanks in advance! Hopefully someone can find SOMETHING.

Do you have Opera Mini installed? I've been able to download podcasts through the new version of Opera Mini on my BB and save them to my SD card (be sure you save it to an SD card or you will run out of memory quickly).

I just go to the site that offers the podcast and click on the link to download the .mp3 file.

Whoops. Sorry. I've been using my mobile browser and it must have cached the page so I didn't see it. Thanks. I'll have to try your method.

No worries, I wondered if perhaps I misunderstood something. Hope it helps!

I've had good success pulling a few podcasts in the method mentioned above. Make sure you specify the sd card as the directory for saving mp3 files...obvious location is music...but any who! May have to try a few times, as well it doesn't always dL right away. May take a minute or so to start!

Too bad Tango hasn't been fully released yet. They have Audio and Podcasts as part of their offering but I don't think it's fully available yet.

For the sites that require a subscription and will not let you download the MP3 files directly, there's also VoiceIndigo.

VoiceIndigo: Podcasts Anytime, Anywhere

I was actually doing a search to find out if anyone had tried it when I came across this thread. I haven't used it myself yet. But, it's free. And, it seems like you've got plenty of time to kill.

Audiobay is a podcast client for Blackberries. Worked well on my Window phone, but I've heard bad things about it on Blackberries. That may be a BES thing though. Besides, they have a free trial version I assume which is enough time for you to download what you need before your trip.

Thanks for the replies. I tried with Opera Mini and it seems that the downloads don't like me too much. They often get a "failed to retrieve file". I'll try again and also do the other methods as well.

It's a pity Tango doesn't support that feature yet. I was really excited about it because it was exactly what I was looking for. Then I download the Beta and see that it's not supported yet. :/

My Bad,
Kalifornia and Wilsopd's method should work. Opera does have a built in RSS reader that you can use for podcasting. Here are the directions for how to get the downloads to work:

++++Unlimited download size for files OTA (for podcasting etc...) - PinStack.com - BlackBerry forums

Note that the OP created a podcast folder and saved his or her podcasts there so that they would not get mixed up with the music. This is a great idea cause especially if you tend to go through and erase these immediately after listening to them.
