Default Calling beta testers: KBLauncher now in beta

I just put up a beta release of my latest app, KBLauncher. I would really appreciate having beta testers try it out. In particular, I'd like to hear reports about what apps are incompatible with KBLauncher. App compatibility is my main concern now, both RIM system apps and third party apps.

The beta is a time-limited free trial. As an incentive, I will give free copies of the release version to particularly helpful beta participants. Of course, KBLauncher will be priced relatively cheap on release, so money should not be your main motivation. Rather, I hope you will be motivated by getting bugs fixed so KBLauncher will work great with your apps and OS version.

You can find the OTA download link for the beta by following the link above to the beta page.

KBLauncher Description (From the web page)

KBLauncher is an application launcher and switcher. It lets you very quickly run any of your dozens of commands by typing the beginning of its name. In short, it is a command line for your BlackBerry.

Like many BlackBerry users, you are good at typing. Your keyboard kung fu leaves onlookers in awe as your fingers move in a blur of motion. But when it's time run one of your many great apps that you installed on your BlackBerry, you have to scroll painfully through countless icons with your trackball. You know exactly what you want: why do you have to waste all this time? Now you don't. Just configure one of your convenience keys to start KBLauncher, and your apps will always be just a few keystrokes away.

Features
  • Fast command access.
  • No setup. KBLauncher automatically detects installed and running apps.
  • KBLauncher adapts to your behavior by prioritizing your recently used commands.
  • Works on SureType keyboard layouts (Pearl, Pearl Flip, Storm).
  • Cool transparent window effects.
  • Run commands not normally available on your Home screen: WiFi toggle, memory cleaner.

Downloaded it about 15mins ago and gave it a quick couple of tests, it's running flawlessly, except I read that it should ask for additional permission on the first startup; mine did not, however every application I've tested has launched perfectly.
Love having that fast access to the memory cleaner as well.
I normally used Launchpads to quickly launch my apps, but as I type faster than I scroll, this is perfect. I literally hit the sidekey, started typing pressed enter and loaded the app in under 2 secs easy. well done.

will get back to you in a day or two after trying out more apps and more tests.

Oh, and It doesn't seem to be able to detect facebook.

Finally! Been wanting an app like this for quite a while. I will be downloading and testing just as soon as I'm done typing

I do have a question for you - I have several different 8330's running hybrid OS's. Do you still want my feedback? I would understand completely if you didn't, as it could easily muddy the waters a bit.

In any case, I'm excited over this app.

Exclamation Wow

I downloaded this early this evening and have been putting it through the paces since.
Initial reaction is LOVE IT! App seems to run perfectly except for a couple problems.
First I had to dl twice to get it to run after install.
Second did not ask to edit permissions on first start up
Third it recognizes the following apps but will not do anything with them
UberTwitter, CardSnap,Facebook.
Other then that everything ran great. I have over 40 native and 3rd party apps installed.
I am running .167 on my storm. I was curious to know if the beta is a "lite" or full version.
I currently write app reviews for a different site so I will test other apps as I test them and let you kow if there are any problems.
Feel free to contact me via pm. Keep up the good work!

Thus far flawlessly on my Tour, with the exception of the inability to detect FaceBook. Also, didn't ask for permissions. Other than that, nice work.

Ok, after uninstalling and reinstalling, it did ask for permission. A few of the default apps required two attempts at launching before opening, but after worked perfectly. Examples: Search, Help, and Options. Perhaps a possible addition could be the ability to compose sms, mms, emails, and bbms from the command line, as well as visiting bookmarked sites. If these were added, it would be the ultimate alternative to QL as it stands, its an amazing app.

Great app! Works without problems on 8100. All my apps that I have on quicklaunch, I opended with kblauncher. And I must say they opened a lot quicker than quicklaunch. It recognized all my 3rd party apps besides MySpace. I agree, a compose command would be an awesome addition. Or even a google search that would invoke the native BlackBerry browser to perform a search of the internet. Just a thought. Awesome job so far.

Long application names go outside of blue transparent box. SureType doesn't seem to work too. Other than that, works awesome on pearl 8100/4.5.0.153.

Okay, extensive testing done. Apps not detected(in alphabetical order):

1) Email Setup Application
2) Facebook
3) MySpace
4) Word Mole

Other than that, zero errors.
