I hope someone can help me? I’m having memory issues as well. I have four email accounts on a BB Curve 8320 and deleted all mail, messages and my call log. Since getting the BB on Friday, I installed the following: Viigo, CNN mobile, AP Mobile News and a small size theme.
I’ve not deleted the preinstalled programs:
Windows live, AIM, T-Zones, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, Facebook, Handango InHand, ICQ and Docs to Go.
This has left me with a free file of 9,058,896. That seems small to me? With the exception of docs to go, I can delete any of the preinstalled text messaging/meet people ones since I am old enough to have babysat Methuselah and hence have no social life but will it help? I’ve emptied the browser cache, have no pictures/music on the phone itself and today did a soft reboot. My next option is a restore but I am dreading that. Anyone have ideas?

First, you must perform the Memory Optimization Procedure that's linked in my sig. That will help your memory tremendously. Second, Viigo has a well-known memory management problem. If you continue to run out of memory after running the MOP, be sure to exit Viigo when you are not using it and see if that helps.

| | LOL, good one Jeff... your MOP links back to this thread, see Loop, endless.
I suspect you have preinstalled pictures and perhaps some other memory consuming options. The directions in this thread will help you free up additional memory.
Once you have enough free memory, you can expect near troublefree operation.

On a completely off-topic note: the new Mod avatar is kind of cool but now you guys all look like identical clones.

Hi all,
I used MaxMem 0.4 and it did a great job of removing excess apps. However I also lost my theme. What's weird is that when I re-download the theme, it still exists but I can't see it in the options\theme menu. It's also in the application loader in the desktop manager but will not allow me to either delete or load it. I hope this description makes sense. Does anyone have advice?

| | @Grimagination: If MaxMem removed the default Dimension
themes, what your are seeing is what happens. If you go to
options > themes there should be BB Dimension Today,
BB Dimension Icon, BB Dimension Zen and possibly BB Dimension L.
If they are not there I think you can open Desktop Manager, click
Application Loader and it will add back everything that
MaxMem removed. Once done you can run MaxMem again but
skip the themes removal.
Also, check out the link for CrackMem in my sig. It is a more
permanent solution than MaxMem as it removes the files from
the PC, not just the phone.

If you test it and it works correctly, I would appreciate the feedback. If it fails and cripples your Storm, I will help you through the recovery. | Ok I downloaded MaxMem and tried to delet preloaded media and it asked if you did a back up seleted yes and then asked if you will not blame the coder and said yes.....it just sits there for a few and....nothing. It did apsolutley nothing. The funnu thing is that when you scroll thru the items is like you are using the track wheel the hover and locate does not work
But the good news it that my Storm is ok thank Reed!

But the good news it that my Storm is ok thank Reed! | I guess that answers our question. The file module names have likely been changed on the Storm. MaxMem is not able to deal with this model.
CrackMem has been updated to deal with some 9*** models. Quote:

CrackMem has been updated to deal with some 9*** models. | Reed...first of all. You are a credit to this community. Thousands of folks world over owe you a debt of gratitude including myself. With that out of the way. Help us STORMIES out --my brother!
I've posted a good thread about improving the file free memory by grouping and foldering icons to get to only 8 on the homescreen. I've also installed "QuickPull" and use Memory Clean a couple of times a day. But there has got to be another way to help this Application Memory monster out?
Any other suggestions you can offer for the 9530 would be much appreciated. I know...patience is needed... but I figured I'd escalate it to the "SOURCE".
Happy Holidays to you and your family!

| | Thank you for those kind word, this has been a community developed and supported thread with many contributing members.
I would love to have a Storm to experiment with, but my current contract means that will not be happening any time soon.
The basic rules apply, pre-installed samples contribute to a delightful out of the box experience, but they consume memory.
The later generation BlackBerry, starting with Bold, have much more memory then the earlier generations. That puts less strain on resources, removing the samples is less critical.
However, as the owner and master of the device, you have the ability to determine how the memory is used.
The tools are the same, Application Loader is the first choice for installing and removing software. Bypassing Applications Loader, removing the COD files, should be used for the core applications with care.
Once the correct combination of files has been identified and tested to insure minimal side effects, CrackMem can be updated for the Storm.

Reed - on a clean boot, how much memory is ok, good, very good, can't get much better?
For instance what should a Storm owner aim for. The only 3rd party aps i use are docs to go, RSA, and worksite mobility. I clean boot at 50+ MG.

I was wondering if anyone else has has signigicant slowdown on the storm? I have stored everything I added on the media card thinking this would allow the storm to run smoother.
