I wanted a phone with buttons--love apple products but I cannot deal with the touchscreen keyboard. Too many typos! I chose the Pearl because I wanted a small BB. I might switch to the 8900 when my contract is up, but I am happy with the Pearl for the time being. It is a nice entry-level smartphone.

I first had the alias on verizon, then iphone 3g on At&T, and now have a bold on At&T...i chose to get a blackberry because to me, it seemed more reliable than the iphone, and bbm is just too tempting....and i felt that i had many uses pages of apps on my iphone, and i spent over $400+ on apps....

Having push email, full keyboard, and the ability to mutli-task on the BB is huge for me. Plus, the button layout and form factor makes it easier to use when I don't have two hands available to send a text/email or surf the web.

The way I compare the two phones is that the iPhone is that sexy girl that everyone wants to date, but as you get to know her you realize she's all looks and no substance. The Blackberry is that modest/confident girl you want to marry because she has the brains and ability to be a good, reliable wife.

Just my two cents.
Damn I like that lat paragraph. For I am a female Blackberry. Hahaha

When I was looking at upgrading to a smartphone, my carrier had just a couple of options: The Motorola Q, the Blackberry 8830WE, and the Pearl (the Curve hadn't come out yet). I knew I wanted a qwerty keyboard, and comparing the specs between the Motorola and the 8830, the 8830 won out. I was pretty much hooked on BlackBerry from that first day.

There may be other options out there, but it was a natural transition for me to move up from the 8830 to the Tour.

I like the BlackBerry line because they are great devices that have a multitude of capabilities and requires very little maintenance. Out of the box, the BlackBerry gives me everything that I want. I really don't have a need for the App World store. I loved my iphone, but it took a lot to keep up with it. I found myself constantly downloading apps to make it complete. The BlackBerry is also the best messaging device in the business. Battery life is really good too.

Comparing smartphones nowadays has always come back to iphone and blackberry.

I use both of them but use the iphone 3GS much more for reasons:
1. Similar email capabilities... Sometimes my iphone receive the email even before BB Bold
2. I'm typing way faster on iPhone... once you used to iphone, it's quicker
3. Fun... Games.... iPhone clear winner
4. 256 MB memory... it's really for RAM only... The unforgivable sin of blackberry is to allocate 128MB/256MB RAM for applications, mails... It's simply not enough
5. Apps.... many apps in iPhone... you can install as many as you want
6. Many modification can be done
7. Sexy
8. and so on and so on....

The problem with the iphone is really battery life and instant messaging (YM, GTalk).... BB Bold is only a tad better in battery department because it's bad also...

Imagine if you have thousands of contacts, thousands of sms, messaging and emails... your BB will cramped and hang a lot while your iphone still smooth

My main reason at the time I switched from a smartphone to a BB was of the device wasn't dependable keep locking up and was the second replacement phone after dropping the original in water so when my upgrade came due got a BB
Now I am spoiled by the push email and like others check email with BB more then puter and so far has been more dependable (yes even with the outages)so unless its down hill from here I will stay with BB
