Honestly you should be more worried about the air you breathe and damage from the sun that you should about the RF signal from your cell phone. It won't give you cancer. The energy emitted is too low frequency.

@branta, we should take this dicussion offline or, on a phone call. You obviously know a thing or two about this as do I, (BSc in Telecoms) and if we carry on here the converation will
a). make everyone else fall asleep
b). get so long and technical that neither of us will be able to anything else for weeks on end.

I am very interested in this but less from a technical standpoint but more from a human standpoint.

I take you point about ground leakage by a person holding the phone but this is a high resistance/impedance path and dos not necessarily form a true antenna ground plane.

For a standard emitted power level:
* There is no correlation between call quality and SAR
* SAR is governed by phone design items such as antenna design and position, and quality of antenna matching.

For any particular phone, SAR will vary proportionately with the transmit power emitted from moment to moment.

IIRC the standard testing uses a phone running at maximum power, and SAR is measured using a dummy rig designed to replicate an adult human user. The results are not valid for child users who have different body structure and proportion, and are also suspected to be more at risk of adverse effects from prolonged or repeated RF exposure.

This reminds me of those mothers I had to deal with when replacing old light bulbs with CFL's at my last property. They were freaking out (and that is putting it lightly) over the mercury and the possibility of it hurting their children. The amount of mercury in a CFL bulb amounts to the size of a pin head.

bah, there is a steak house here that serves, now get this, chicken fried bacon. yanno, chicken fried steak ? same thing but with thick slab bacon. talk about clogging the arteries.

I solve the radiation problem by wraping my head with aluminum foil. not only does this prevent getting to much radiation from my BB but it prevents Martians from stealing military secrets in my brain.

seriously, think about all the things sending out signals. HDTV, HD radio, GPS. I believe if you don't live on the phone, ie: 8+hours a day with it glued to your ear, there isn't much to worry about.

Given that there is absolutely no conclusive evidence that the levels in question cause a problem, I'd spend your time worrying more about your cholesterol.

Given that with a Bluetooth headset, your exposure is nil, if you really want to be conservative there is your solution as they only need radiate enough energy to reach your phone (vs. the tower).

If you look at the actual power levels (and exposure) required to cause observable damage you would clearly see that you are better off worrying more about your diet, exercise, and getting hit by that bus as you adjust your Bluetooth.
