| | IS Blackberry turning into the Razr?
I just wanted to know because I was with a group of friends who have various types of phones such as iphones, g1's, samsung touchscreens and so on (no bb's except for me). They all use to have curves before these phones. They sparked up an argument like blackberry is played out. They were saying how the OS is dead and boring. I myself was like yeah it is kind of boring I must admit.
I was like well blackberry's are still selling millions of phones of quarters. They hit me with the razr still sells alot but in the public eye they are played out. They talked about how the storm flopped in the media and to alot of storm owners. ( I agreed..just being honest). They went on to explain how all the new berries expected to come out look to simliar like the curve and theyre just adding things like wifi and app memory and calling it the magnum and pluto. I started to feel there point like are these phones looking to similar and no difference. To me bb is getting like the razr where it is constantly looking the same and the phone specs are the same and nothing is different from the curve bold magnum besides maybe just ones a little longer,a little wider, more memory. I think RIM needs to replenish the BB and make it cool and business wise.

Dude I have to admit I've beeb thinking the same things about bb rim for a while. Rim def needs to be careful and take note about motorola's failure to capitalize on the big lead in the mkt w. the razor. 2 things I think save their arses right now are:
1) Smart phones in general have become the trend so their all hard to tell apart beyond apps and shapes
2) Business still had out bb's like candy and they still get the job done with their needs in mind
So let's have it rim CAPITALIZE on ur younger- layperson users and give us a fun bb to be proud of!

Even if we assume it's true that BlackBerries are "played out," that's not really what I consider to be the reason people are tired of the RAZR. The RAZR just flat out sucks. Everyone I know who's had one has had to get multiple replacements, some under warranty and some not, because the phone just falls apart on them. With the exception of the Storm, that hasn't been true of BlackBerries that I know of, even the more "mass market" models like the Pearl and Pearl Flip. BlackBerry may be boring at times, but by and large it's reliable and holds together well (see, e.g., the iPhone, Pre, and BB Bold "story" that's on the front page of CB). The same can't be said of the RAZR, in my experience.

I had a Razr before my Bold (as a phone, at least). My work paid for my old Blackberry 8700, but just for the data.
My wife got her Razr at the same time. This was over 3 years ago. When I got my Bold we gave our Razr phone to my mom and step-dad. My wife bought a Curve over a year ago.
Both of old Razr's are still running great. Neither of us had any problems with ours. I have heard of problems from other people but not for us.
I don't know how you compare Blackberries with Razrs. I don't think RIM needs to change anything. Just a couple of years ago you could not get a Blackberry with a camera, with an awesome screenn wifi, play movies and music, etc. They were email devices with a decent phone built in. They were almost strictly business devices.
My Bold is so much more than that. It does everything that I need and then some.

Lets be honest the average American wants to be cool as the next one. Right now the iphone, g1, pre, other touchscreens are popular. BLACKBERRY TRIED TO JUMP ON THE TOUCHSCREEN BUS AND GOT HIT BY IT..LOL...I dont see whats the difference in all these new berries coming out. The consumer will come around like they did with the razr.

I think RIM needs to replenish the BB and make it cool and business wise. | Sadly, I have to agree. I was a hardcore blackberry user for a couple years. But right now, it's nothing excited anymore. Don't get me wrong, blackberries still get the job done but they have become a little boring. One of my friends asked my recommendation on a phone. She currently has the 8330 for Sprint. So I told her to either check out the iPhone or waitt until the Tour comes out. She looked at the Tour and said "this just looks like an upgraded version of my phone". I was like "pretty much". I have been thinking for the past few months that RIM is basically putting out the same devices with slightly different specs and form factor and then calling it something else. The Tour is nothing but an 8900 and 9000 hybrid for CDMA carriers. I am a blackberry fan, but right now I do agree, in it's current state, the OS is getting a little stale .

Now, they are all bored and looking for other devices. I think some people need to stop being so naive to the fact that the same thing happened to Palm can happen to RIM. I hope it doesn't happen, but it is possible. The OS and UI needs a overhaul urgently.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | Im not really comparing them as phones..its more of how the razr was in everyone hands and now you never seem them. There is still no cdma wifi. its not even on the tour..lol. the multimedia on the blackberry on the 1-10 scale would get 4 at best depending on opinion. We know that other company thats named after a fruit (apple) are taking some of rim's market share. I looked on yahoo homepage and I saw that there is a playstation phone being built. We all know consumers will flock to it like they did the iphone and more rim market share will be lost.

Well everyone I know with BB's said there is no way they can go back to a "normal" phone. As long as people still want the information on the go in a hand held phone BB have no worries!
As for comparing it to the Razr, the only thing IMO the Razr had was the look and style. I owned one and never thought it had so much more then any other phone on the market at the time! I actually had to give my old Razr to my hubby and it ended up dying within a few months of him using it! The buttons started coming off and then it wouldnt hold a charge!
Whether RIM needs to figure out something new in one thing but to say it has been "played out" is far from the truth!

I enjoy my Blackberry, but I have to agree as well. I chose the Blackberry over the iPhone because the Blackberry had copy-paste, push Email, and was easy to work with Excel and Word documents. With the new iPhone coming out (with new features), and perhaps future models of the iPhone, it's going to be hard not to think of switching if RIM does not make some changes. 3rd party apps are really what makes a smart phone fun to use. There are tons of apps for other phones, in comparison to the Blackberry. If the new 3rd party Skyfire browser pans out to be a great product, it will save the Blackberry for a while. Right now, the iPhone Safari browser is leaving us Blackberry users in the dust.

Whether RIM needs to figure out something new in one thing but to say it has been "played out" is far from the truth! | Well a blackberry is not the only device you can get information on the go. It depends on how long you've been using blackberry to decide whether it's "played" out. It might not be played out to someone who's only been using for a year or less. But for people who've been using for years may have a different opinion. Of course to some people it will never be played out. But the point is that I can do basically the same stuff on a Curve as a Bold. The Bold might have a better screen and a little more memory, but I can still get the same results in the same fashion on the Curve. And that's the point, it's getting stale and people who love new devices are starting to realize everything that's coming out is basically the same as previous devices.

the grass is always looks greener on the other side. i went from blackberry to iphone and back so many times i must of wasted 90 dollars on apples restocking fee and went through 3 BB bolds. the apps on the iphone are nothing special at all. most can keep you occupied for around 2 months. There is nothing wrong with the BB OS. It works so don't fix. The iphone hasn't changed theirs either.

Flip phones in general are played out. Even in terms of regular phones, not smart phones, people want candy bar or slider phones. RAZR is outdated, since it is a flip phone.
