Default BES, BIS, Microsoft Exchange, & Blackberrys?

Ok,

Got a question for anyone who has the technical expertise or experience in setting up these servers. Got a couple of questions that I'm having trouble finding answers to.

1. I understand that BIS is pretty much adding on emails through the web portal or through the phone itself. Is that correct?

2. BES allows you to get company mail and allows the push of other data such as contacts and calender from a remote source.

3. Does BES require Microsoft Exchange or vice versa?

I guess overall I'm just wondering what's required in order to push company email, contacts, and calender to a Blackberry and if the company uses Microsoft Enterprise server. Also is the Enterprise server required if you use BES or BIS if it's compatible.

Thanks!

For a single BB I would recommend BPS. Its free and doesn't require a dedicated server. Its free for the first CAL and can reside on the same box as exchange.

You can check exchange mail via BIS provided pop mail is enabled. But you won't get exchange calendar or contacts. You could sync via BB manager tho or google apps.

Actually it's more than 1 Blackberry. It's for a company with many Blackberrys.

Not sure if this is germane to your question, but BES is compatible at least with Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino, and Novell Groupwise.
