Back after an iphone trial

Well, I am back to the Blackberry.
I got an iphone in October 08 and thought it be a good thing.
While there are features on the phone that are cool it just was not a Blackberry.
The BB is SOOOOO much better of a business tool than the iphone that I cant put into words on this forum what a mistake it was to make the switch.

I am under a different carrier (Altell / Verizon) now, but I am so happy to have my blackberry back.

If any of you are considering a switch to the iphone, I can give you a whole bunch of reasons why you shouldnt...

And I can give you a bunch of reasons why you should. It's all about what device suits you better. Glad you are back to the one that best fits you. Both are awesome devices.

Cellphone companies do a great job tailoring products
to a diverse crowd of consumers. What one sees as benefit
may not be viewed as the same to another.

Yeah, blackberry is more of a business tool as opposed
to a consumer product in the iphone.
Just curious, but what did you miss most about your blackberry?

I like my friends new iphone. I still prefer my bb. I agree with avt, I use my bb for my work, but it gets its regular use in my personal life too. My bb for me is a smarter choice. Just like the Curve was a better bb for me than the Storm.

Honestly, I am a college kid and had an iPhone and switched to a Bold, I never do anything business related but the simple fact is the Bold is a better PHONE which should come first when buying a cell phone not that i can shake my phone to shuffle songs or shoot hoops with a touch screen. I could not be happier with my choice to give BB a chance.

I disagree with you on using the iPhone for business. I am now using my 3GS almost exclusively for my small business and will be buying several more for key employees.

I originally wanted a business/pleasure phone which is why I bought the Storm. Since I can't afford BES, I quickly discovered the limitations that any BB has if you aren't connected via a Blackberry Enterprise Server. I run outlook 2007 and keep 1 subfolder for each of my customer groups. I could not sync any of them with my Storm, just the inbox. I couldn't sync my calendar or my contacts either. I also couldn't download large files or reliably access the content on my SharePoint portal. My iPhone does all of these things out of the box, plus I can remotely wipe the device if it's lost or stolen.

I still use a Curve on BES for my day job and love it and I have been using my Storm strictly for tethering which it is suprisingly good at. My opinion is you aren't on BES, the BB BIS solution seems to be lacking in some very basic functionality that pretty much all other smartphones are providing out of the box.........

I'm glad my post wasn't taken as an attack on the BB platform. I've been a BB user for several years.

I looked into a few hosted BES solutions, but to get a really good deal, someone on my end would still need to serve as the admin. Outlook is dead simple to administer and only takes a couple of hours a week of my time, but I have no BES admin experience and honestly don't care to learn. I am the IT department and keeping the intranet up as well as a few other admin tasks is all the time I really have. Then there is the extra cost of the BES plans, it's not that much more, but when I don't need that level of control over my devices, it's hard to justify. Pin enforcement and the ability to remotely wipe is pretty much all I need to feel good about security. Maybe one day i'll be big enough, but I kind of feel like RIM shoud at least give us some of these things on BIS, since all of their competition does.

I think it boils down to perspective. For some businesses users the iphone is ok...for others its not. That being said, you both have points. To PitBull's credit, most business users will likely find issue with the iphone. To your credit, there are business folks who are fine with the iphone.
I work for a very large corporation and if I came to them asking for an iphone I woul dlikely get laughed out of the room. But on the other hand I know several freelancers and small business folks who would probably love the iphone for business.

as far as BIS is concerned, I am ok with it. But I understand why others aren't.

I think the difference in your comment and comments in other threads is that you point out well thought out shortcommings. Others come in proclaiming that other platforms are superior platforms without bringing any solid evidence to the table.

I have been on lots of smartphone forums. And this one seems to be much less fanboyish than other ones. I think folks around here seem to be a little more open minded but are less accepting of fluff. Of course I could be wrong...but....
