Default Idea to prevent new threads which have already been answered

So if anyone hangs out in the Storm Forum, you know that literally every day there will be a new thread titled "NO BROWSER!", or "Song ID App?" or something else which already has dozens of responses and proven answers in other threads. The same thing happens in all device forums but not as bad, admittedly. Therefore I propose the following:

When a newb tries to post a thread titled "NO BROWSER", after they click "Post Thread", they are re-directed to the search results from the current forum, using their title as the keywords. At the top a message is displayed: "your post looks like a topic which has already been researched by the community, do these posts help?" or something like that, and only at the bottom of the search list is a button that says "No, these don't help, please post my thread." And then when they click on that their thread is posted. This isn't a foolproof method but would cut down on a lot of redundant threads in my opinion, by forcing people to at least look at the search results first. It would also be very easy to implement.

Sound good?

There have been several similar request. I always like the 10 posts before being allowed to start a new thread. This would help a little, but PK can easily back me up when i say people use horrible thread titles that have nothing to do with their problem alot. I still would like to see something done to try and help clean up and make the forum as useful as it can be.

hey guys,

yup - it's a good idea. we're already working on a plugin that is similar to this (we have it running on some of our other SPE sites). basically as you're creating a new thread, it searches and shows you similar threads already in existance and directs you to look at them. so creating a new thread is like a search in affect.

there's a few things on our end that have to happen before it's implemented, but something similar to this is coming. trust me, we know what needs to be improved around here... just takes some time to implement it.

thx for the idea, tweet and patience!

K
