Default The audacity of Audacity

I downloaded Audacity to create ringtones and after about an hour, I figured out how to cut a sample and save it to my BB curve. I made about 15 of them and they loaded onto my phone. I checked them and they played beautifully. HOwever, when I set one of them to be my main ringtone, it doesn't work!!!!! It starts to play but then stops after 5 seconds, restarts, and then stops again. HELP ME! I thought I was so smart for creating my own ringtones but now I feel like an ***** because they don't work. I saved them as .wav because that was the only way Audacity would let me save them to my computer. What did I do wrong?

Hmm. I think you need to export them as mp3s. Click on file and it should be one of the options iirc.

When I tried to export them as mp3's, it told me something about I need LAME library to do it and when I searched online, I couldn't find anything about a LAME program to download. Any ideas?

Just posted this in a different thread. But i use MP3 Direct Cut.

mp3DirectCut - editor to cut, fade, split and record compressed mpeg audio

I just open up the song then pick what section i want to save as my ring tone. then save my selection and move it over to my phone. Works great for me.

You need then LAME driver to save as MP3s.
I can pull the link to it in a bit from my pute if you didn't find it.
You're almost there, don't give up on it yet.

Thanks for all the links. I actually continued to export the ringtones as .wav and then when I transfered it over to the Media Manager I converted them to mp3's before placing on my BB. Thanks again!

Here's the installation instructions from the Audacity Website FAQ

Windows

1. Go to the LAME download page.
2. Under "For Audacity on Windows", left-click on the link "libmp3lame-win-3.97.zip" and save the zip folder to anywhere on your computer.
3. When you have finished downloading the ZIP folder, unzip it and save the file lame_enc.dll that it contains to anywhere on your computer.
4. The first time you use the "Export as MP3" command, Audacity will ask you where lame_enc.dll is saved.
5. In case of difficulty, please view our more detailed instructions at the Audacity Wiki.

Not reading all replies but...

You can use AltoMP3 for converting WAV to MP3, that's what I do with Audacity. Also in Profiles > Advanced > (menu key) > edit you can change 'number of beeps' to 1.

Default Ring, then stop and repeat help

THANKS soo much for the tip with audacity, now I'm free to get all the ringtones I wanted to play all the way through the song without stopping and looping after a 10 second play!
