I'm glad this little power house isn't to your liking, because you deserve the 3GS, not the 9700.

I thought the 9700 Browser on the AT&T device was supposed to be much faster than the 9000 browser? My understanding of the improved features include:

* Faster overall (turning on, browsing, etc.);
* Longer battery life (what is the difference in % terms?);
* Brighter/better screen;
* Better 3.2 vs. 2.0 megapixel camera;
* Smaller (some people think this is a negative, but I bet they don;t carry it loosely, but use a holster, purse, etc. I thought the Curve was ideal size and the Bold 9000 is a bulky clunker).

Any I wrong/missing something?

Well now I'm pretty happy. I found this thread that lets me use my iphone and 9700 without calling and changing the data plan back and forth. The iphone now works on the blackberry data plan. This is awesome. Now I can enjoy both phones without the hassle of calling att every second to change data plans.

Has anyone used the Simore dual SIM card reader or any other comparable/better one?

It's got a great form factor and feels nice in the hand, but the keyboard is a bit cramped for typing and the screen is small for viewing stuff. I used a Pearl for about 2 1/2 years. Small device, but I loved it, great form factor, keyboard (large keys) was amazing to type on...maybe a conversation for another thread (new BB Pearl 9100 on the horizon).

I'm sorry to hear that walds since from our conversations you were really excited to get this device but here is the reason you should stick it out. Good things in the browser dept are coming..... I'm thinking like some time in the summer '10.

I am picking up my 9700 tomorrow and I have a buyer for my 9000. I think two thoughts w/o having used the device I(I did test it):

(1) I used/liked the old Curve keyboard (and device size)...is this much different? I have a sense keyboard is similar.

(2) I think you get used to what you use.

Now, on the other hand, my reading eyesight is getting poorer, and I returned a notepad for an 11" laptop because I thought the keys were too close for fast/meaningful typing.

Hmmm...so if I sell my Bold, and I am unhappy, I would have to buy back another Bold. I am selling a perfect Bold for $250...w/o knowing whether I'll prefer the 9700, but I am pretty sure I will.

I also think the current bold is big and klunky, but the keys are good.

I have never had a Blackberry, except for teh Pearl/dual key thing, which I haven't felt good about typing on.

SoxFan, the keys are smaller but not so much so that it would be a dealbreaker. It's a tiny adjustment. If you have large hands with broad fingertips, the keypad on the Bold are what you need. My husband is a bass player with huge calluses on his fingertips, so he sticks to his Bold, can't handle my 9700.
So - are your fingers broad at the tips like a bass player's or refined like a pianist's?

Yeah, I know. I was so hyped for the 9700. Oh well. Other than the browser, the small size was a deal breaker. If the 9000 had the trackpad and better camera, I may consider it. The 9000 is a brick in my opinion. It's much wider and thicker than the iPhone, but possibly doable. Well, really not much of a difference in dimensions when looking at those numbers on paper, but the 9000 feels and carries much bigger in my opinion.

My fingers are pretty small. My eyesight is not so good anymore, as I need reading glasses, unless I increase the screen font to 13, but I sort of know where the keys are. I think the old Curve had similar size keys and they were fine. I have a buyer for my Bold 9000 for $250. I can always return the 9700 within 30 days and buy another used 9000 for $200-250, but I think I am going to prefer the 9700.

That said....aside from myridad problems with the iPhone, there is one that is an absolute deal breaker for me....why would a company give its device such a substandard battery and then nail its customers to a device that does not allow for something as simple as the changing of that battery?

I tried to like it, tried to love it, was very excited when I got it, but the bloom was off the rose very quickly, when I realized that I could not even customize the thing to my liking, in something as simple as adding wallpapers. And the battery issue....enough said.

But I do realize that there are folks who are absolutely in love with their devices, as I am in love with my 9700.

Different folks, different strokes.
you obviously have not used a palm pre, the web browsing experience is almost identical to the iphone's lol.

i still think i wanna switch my pre for the 9700 (:

Begging everyone's indulgence - off topic, but yes...been riding literally since before I began to walk. My Da took me riding with him. Of course, in America he would have been up on charges of child endargement....

I used the Pre - don't care much for the OS. As far as multimedia and web browsing, I have never had my hands on anything that equals the Safari experience on the iPhone.

That said, I returned the iPhone because as a phone it was terrible. Turned it in and got a wee bit of a notebook.

Very cool. I'm (was) British and it sounds like you're of Irish descent? Anyhow, good to meet you! And back to the BB 97000...
