Default 9700 Firmware 5.0.0.321

Software For BlackBerry® Bold(TM) 9700 Smartphone

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.499

Package Version: 5.0.0.499
Consisting of:

*Applications: 5.0.0.321
*Software Platform: 5.1.0.90
*File name: 9700M_PBr5.0.0_rel499_PL5.1.0.90_A5.0.0.321(1).exe
*File size: 143MB

Download the OS HERE

Instructions to install, regardless of carrier.

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

***As soon as the firmware version is put up on the BlackBerry Carrier Download Page we will change links.***

It does not show a higher platform version. I'm not quite sure where you get that from, but you can clearly see the original posts says "Software platform 5.1.0.90"

Is there a work around for updating the OS on a Mac? I have the desktop manager for Mac but haven't had a Blackberry in a while so not used it yet, but I'm sure it won't have the same functionality as on windows.

Can someone check into making a hybrid out of this for the Bold 9000? The current .314 is sweet but is very unstable and reboots. And that memory card format thing doesn't work--I even pulled out the memory card entirely. Still getting reboots. 3 fresh reinstalls of 5.0.314 and even as of today's fresh install, 4 reboots thus far. Random.

It will work because it has the tri-band HSPA (China uses UMTS 2100) and quadband GSM (900mhz and 1800mhz). So you are fine. The only reason why she said that is probably because of the SIM lock. Just get it unlocked and you'll be fine.

I'll be in HK in Dec as well, and I am taking my now unlocked 9700 with me.... Hehehehehe

Whoops I was getting the platform version confused with the package version. Sorry! (But thanks for clarifying nonetheless...)
