Default Storm 2 teardown. 4 contact points!

Someone finally dismantled the Odin, and Blackberrycool has the goods.

Do we still think Piezo is in play?

You're correct, because that's not what it looks like. Sal had the best analogy. Think of the "scrubby" layer that attaches to the rest of the sponge.

I think those buttons are made of piezoelectric transducing ceramics.

explain to me how I am way off? You may be correct, but explain to me how you would know this for sure?

Have you taken apart the storms screen?

No Im a mercedes benz tech. Piezo is a current inducing crystal. It does so when pressure is applied it has nothing to do with physical movement like a click. Its not like the electro magnetic fluid used in high end suspension systems it does not change its physical propertys when voltage is applied. Its simple you push on it or wack it voltages is produced nothing more.

It may have to do with electric current conducters. Ofcourse the piezo would be in the screen, but it does have a hardware behind the meterialsl reaction. its just not the "crystal material" alone.

And it can be run through any polarized material not just crystal. That includes ceramics.

Obviously you don't either, stop thinking sensors. There is more than one applicable use to the piezo crystal.

But all it can do is produce voltage that's why its used as a sensor it can't do anything els. Sure it could be used to produce a voltage when a buttons is clicked but that's it. Piezo would have nothing to do with the screen not clicking when the powers off because again it does not change its phycual property. Anyway you'll see when the phone is released we could go on all day but people don't really understand the tech.
