Is the SMS text box really that small?

I went from a curve to a storm and I can't believe the text box for SMS messaging is so small. I only have 1 line of text to view on the landscape view and 2 lines on the portrait view. I have searched all the menu items and cannot find a way to make these larger. I tried the help and it says to go to options but I do not have anything that says to display more lines. It is hard to see what was written and I have to keep scrolling down. Please help me understand this better! My curve was great and I had a large view with a smaller screen. I also don't know why the web pages are so much smaller and I have to scroll back and forth and zoom in to read the pages. I thought the storm was an upgrade but these annoying features seem to be a step backward which can't be right so what am I missing?

Swipe the keyboard down to view the whole screen for the threaded SMS text.

Adjust font sizes and see if that helps. ( I use BBAlpha Sans size 10 in Bold
)
As far as web pages go i find that I often tap the screen (no click) to bring up the shortcut bar at the bottom then click the zoom button twice. This makes viewing most pages easier for me. - Unless they are already mobile friendly and have larger text.

There is an icon on the tool bar when you are browsing (second one from the left). It is column/page view. Put your browser in column view. As a previous poster stated, you can also change the font size.
As to the SMS, that is the threaded text everyone was wanting. No way to change it.
