| | Returned Storm 2 for Curve 2 (verizon) and VERY VERY HAPPY .
I just want to be the first , well not the first, but one of the few to say how happy i really am that I returned that piece of junk storm 2. In my little, useless, immature mind - i was tricked into thinking that with better hardware, wifi, and a newer screen that the storm2 would be nothing short of amazing. When i purchased it, about 24 hours ago...i realized within 10 minutes that the phone is still a piece of trash. 10 seconds for a call log to come up when you hit send? 3 seconds for a number to show up on the screen while dialing? battery dead in 3 hours, the phone is heavy....i'm an experienced user so trust me, i had no applications installed, deleted all logging events in the advanced menu, had screen light set to low, everything was tweaked to the max and it was still horrible. the texting was byfar the worst still, no worse than storm 1,but no better.
Anyway, on to my point. picked up the 8520 and first of all, it felt like a feather in my hand. and i'm not just compairing it to the storm, it's light compared to a regular flip phone from verizon. The carbon fiber battery plate adds a nice customized touch. and what i love the best, is not even the wifi, its the amazing trackpad, finally no more dirty ball and skipped input. its very cool and very sensitive and really fast (if you want it to be). the phone was very responsive and right off the bat it has 125mb free space.
2.0 mp camera is not bad, and a huge upgrade from the 8330, and overall the phone feels great. I like the buttons on this better than the tour, and the browser is just as good as the tour. really loving this phone and so happy that i have a phone that functions, i finally dont have to worry about carrying 5 batteries in my pocket just to get through the day. anyone else have the new curve? any complaints?

Glad you got a device you like. Plainly the S2 wasn't for you.

I agree and it was wrong of me to NOT mention that the S2 could and should be perfect for some people. I'm sure millions of people will like it. But I'm fine with a lower end basic 8530. Very good for me

the trackpad is great, and the screen is perfect for me. I keep the font at 7 anyway, so a small screen is fine...its so light also. It's got to be atleast half the weight of the curve, and when you compare it to the weight of the storm, its like comparing a brick to a pen. I liked the storm and storm 2's screen, but from a professional standpoint, the typing was impossible and messy. the phone was lagging behind and i was typing faster than the phone would allow.

If I don't get the Droid, I might pick this up for a second BB and swap between it and the Storm.

I agree with you 100%. I had the Storm 1 since launch day. Suffered thru many beta and official OS's. I have had BB devices for the last 10 years (company policy) so I am very experienced with them. The Storm is a piece of junk period. I like others tried to fool myself into thinking its ok. Typing on the Storm is horrendous, The voice dialing (that is an absolute must for me) does not work properly. The phone is heavy and most of all the battery life is the worst I have ever seen in a phone. I would always be nervous if I had to go to a client for an all day affair and have the phone lose battery power (which it did several times). As a business phone the Storm 1 or 2 is not a logical choice. Also the voice quality on the Storm was terrible. So many times I would have to repeat myself because the clients on the other side could not understand me. Comments were always I sound muffled. I called my own home answering machine and low and behold they were right.
My wife has the 8830 and loves it. Its light, battery power is phenomenal and signal strength is unreal. Voice quality was crisp and clear.
I went to the Verizon store and fell in love with the Curve 2 (as its called) Keyboard is awesome and the track pad is simply amazing. Throw in Wifi and this is a perfect business phone. The phone is also so much lighter then the Storm. Screen is crisp and clear, controls are redesigned and perfectly laid out. Signal strength is amazing and so is the battery life! Voice quality is crisp and clear just like my wife's model! This is a keeper.

Finally someone that told the truth about the joke that is the Storm/Storm2 and NOT called a troll? How refreshing! Glad you ended your suffering and found something that you REALLY like! Congrats!

Been a Blackberry user on Verizon since the beginning. Been upgrading once per year (got a draw full of old units ), and have never returned a phone.
Had the 8330 since May '08.
For the Storm2, read every post here, watched every Sal video, read every review, and finally made the jump to a touchscreen Blackberry. Was hoping to love the Storm2.
After two weeks, it just didn't work out. The showstopper was that the phone was too heavy to feel the vibrate in the holster, missed many calls.
Yesterday, I upgraded to the 8530, and love it.
It's light (105g), fast, sexy black, thinner, v5.0, lots of memory, trackpad, WiFi, can feel the strong vibrate(!), and both the headset jack and the USB port are in upper left for easy right-hand access when plugged in. The camera is fine since I only took a few pictures with the 8330, and the screen is fine with the graphics getting to small on the higher density screen anyway.
This Blackberry is perfect for me. Absolutely perfect!

How refreshing! | Well,it is a bit easier to say it here as opposed to the Storm2 Forums. The Storm2 is just not for everyone. The Curve 8530 will have a following. All anybody ever heard about it when it was announced was "2MP camera w/o flash" and "lower resolution screen than the Tour". Nobody ever bothered to mention the great improvements and features RIM gave the 8530. Remember it's not meant to be the Flagship Device for RIM,only the improved,next-gen version of the Curve series.

Just ordered the 8530 yesterday. Should be arriving next week and I'm SOOOOO EXCITED!!!! (Although I'm a little worried that the VZ rep I ordered through may have signed me up for the wrong plan...the confirmation email I rec'd said no txting and the 44.99/mo. "Blackberry Solution" plan. Which is def. NOT what I selected. I told him I wanted 450 min. basic plan, the $10 txting feature, and the $29.99 bb web & email option. sheesh. We'll see what happens)

blecht, just make sure to call verizon as soon as you get the phone and confirm your plan and let them know that you want the same plan as before. I agree that the storm2 forum is very eager to jump on the haters, but the fact is, if you want the latest and greatest, you will go get the storm2, and suffer 100 different ways to sunday. How someone can actually say that typing on the storm 2 is easy or fun, is beyond me. I was going to give the storm 2 TWO weeks before i made my decision, once i got into a heavy BBM convo last night with the storm, i realized in 24 hours that i hated it and got the 8520. I don't care how crappy and plasticy people think this phone is, bottom line is i can use it, and i can use it for business or pleasure and like the other poster said, its a great feeling to know that you dont need 3 chargers, car charger and 2 charged batteries with you everywhere you go. For example, if you get drunk and go out, and decide to sleep at a friends house, youre STORM will not make it, lol.
You'll need to have a travel charger with you at all times, and if you didnt drive to that bar, you'll need the charger with you and will have to bring it , just to get the phone to run until the next day. with the curve 2, 8530, i'm back to not worrying about battery life, and back to normal typing. the storm2 is a great phone, great screen, but not for me, in so many ways.

I just left the Verizon store my wife upgraded her old enV to the enV3. While there I played around with the Curve2 and I have to say, that it looks and feels like a MUCH better quality phone than my current 8330. The fit, finish, and feel of the phone are great and the trackpad is EXCELLENT. Still don't like that it doesn't have a flash for the camera, but my guess is they sacrificed it to put more of the cost into the quality of the phone, it makes my 8330 seem like a cheap, plastic toy. I would definitely get it if I wasn't waiting for the Tour2.

I finally went to the Verizon store to put my hands on one.
I was supposed to get mine yesterday, my Verizon reseller won't have them till Monday or Tuesday...no biggie.
I've been using my 8330 for nearly a year. This is a nice upgrade. It was slimmer, lighter but felt built right. The trackpad is nice, you just have to set the sensitivity to your liking, bit deal.
The Internet was faster, it jumped from screen to screen, app to app faster.
The lack of flash doesn't bother me at all.
Can't wait to get my paws on one. I've been very, very happy with my 8330. More so since I put a hybrid 5.X OS on it. Faster browsing and WiFi are just the icing on the cake!!
