Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com | Trackpad is amazing! I love it. I set it to 80 to go side to side though.

I just spent over an hour with the 8530 at the VZW store by me. Maybe not a 100% fair review but I tested everything I could. GREAT Device, especially for the price. The trackpad was overly responsive(it worked too well),had to turn it down a notch. Music Player sounded great from the top speaker. All plastic body like the 8900 and 9700 but not cheap feeling.Has the Visual VoiceMail software pre-loaded if you want to use it. The BB browser was the usual experience but I didn't notice too much of a difference between it's EVDO Rev.0 or the Rev.A of the Tour.Camera took decent pictures inside the store and the screen resolution was good.Seemed sharper than my 8330.Curve style keyboard but the buttons felt smaller and more compact.Easy to adjust to though. It might not be the Essex but it's still a solid replacement for the great 8330. Wish VZW would have carried the Pearl White version like T-Mobile's 8520. 8530 > 9630

no flash, less mp on the camera, same screen resolution as the 8330 = no sale, at least to me....I don't travel overseas but this phone won't work internationally I thought.

| | Love It
Love it! I have had World Phone, Curve, Storm, Curve, Tour, back to 8330 now purchased the 8530. So far very pleased. Love the track pad. Processor seems very fast. So far glitch free as I have been loading apps, setting up preferences. Love the "threaded" SMS. Feels good, nothing loose, wiggly......no creaking, popping sounds. So far.......very good.
Also seamless setup on wifi network.

Your right Tony,no GSM bands so it's not a World Phone. On phones the camera software can mean more than MPs.

Signal Strength Excellent.....I would say same as 8330 if not stronger. (I have obviously only had it now a few hours and have not been to some of my known weak spots) Having said that I have continued very strong signal.

I agree with with pretty much everything said so far above. I just got back from VZ store. I man-handled the 8530 for a good 40 mins. Very solid feeling device. No battery door movement at all. No creaks anywhere, and an over all tight construction. Felt light but not cheap. My 8330 feels a bit more hollow, though heavier. The track pad is great!! took about 10 mins to get used to it. I was just as accurate in that time as my trackball bb. Funny, I agree with the previous poster.. somehow the screen did seem sharper. I know what the specs say but the fonts just seemed sharper on the 8530. ( I made sure both were on the same font w/ smoothing on.) Anyway, i could not make any test calls because the phone was not activated. They didnt even have it out for display; I had to ask a rep to play with one. It was running 5.0.0.337 for the record; it was significantly quicker than my 8330 at doing just about everything. The topside media buttons were pretty good too. Nice feedback, but not going to accidently get pressed in a pocket etc. The cons I see are two so far. The LED indicator is small and not nearly as bright as on the 8330. Kinda sux for those who use Berrybuzz to its fullest. The keypad is the other. I know I'm going to get **** for this but it feels cheap to me. Granted it is well spaced and easy to type on. However, the entire keypadshifts around a bit within the cutouts, Significantly more than on my 8330 that seen a fair amount of use. The keys tehmselves are angled slightly, have good feedback and again, are easy to type on. Though it does have a cheap feel to it. Trackball aside, the Tour physical feel is way better (but we knew that going into it). I'm a Sprint user and just wanted to check the 8530 out to see if I should wait for this one to drop for us or give an Android phone a try. I'm eyeing the Sammy Moment. I've never been a form over function guy though.. decisions, decisions.

So, I am still setting up my phone the way I like it....Butttttt.....the hard case that I bought at VZW is pretty thick in the bottom corners, making it hard to hit the enter or delete buttons. Also, the above poster is right, the keyboard/characters move with the slightest touch of one key. I don't think that will make a diff but they do move....and certainly aren't quiet. The trackpad is really cool....does anyone know if the trackpad can be taken out? The threaded SMS is pretty cool....
The ringer and alerts don't sound as loud or vibrate as strong...
I really hate the case....
I'll get back to this post once I have played around more....oh, and I got the smoky violet phone...

Went to the store today to purchase my 8530. However, because of a system glitch I was not allowed to purchase it. Some error code kept popping up but when the saleman tried to ring up other phones (tour, storm) it worked perfectly. Needless to say I was very annoyed. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.
But I was playing with the phone while waiting and it felt very good. A little light but Im pretty sure that it was designed for such a purpose.
BTW, the package deal for the case, screen protector and memory card or bluetooth was 49.99!!!! what a rip off.
I will try on sunday to see if I can buy it
