Post How to put THEMES on you 8350i (Tutorial)

I have seen a lot of CrackBerrians ask "Can someone tell me how to put a them on my BlackBerry?".

Before we start we need to make sure that you are UP TO DATE!

Open your Desktop Manager (DM) and in the LOWER LEFT you should see "Blackberry Desktop Manager ver *.*, Remember that number.

Now on your BlackBerry (BB), if you hold ALT + LEFT SHIFT and hit the "H" you will pull up your Help Me! screen. If you look at the screen you will notice App Version. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!! This is your Operating System (OS) version. If someone asks "What OS are you running?" you can answer them. Ok, back to the point, remember the last 3 digits, .xxx.

Now goto this site ON YOUR COMPUTER and compare what you have.

Sprint Software Downloads - Smartphones - BlackBerry® Curve™ 8350i Smartphone

If you have a LOWER version number, you need to UPDATE!!

Ok here we GO!!!!!!

1) Download a theme from http://forums.crackberry.com/f137/83...nshots-161231/ or http://forums.crackberry.com/f137/...-4-7-a-156918/
***DO NOT OPEN IT, SAVE IT***

2) Now most computers have an UNZIPPING program somewhere (i use WINRAR). Unzip the zipped file on your desktop (to make it easy to find). There should be 2 files in there, *.COD and *.ALX, if not please let the themes creator know so they can fix it.

3) Now that you have the 2 files on your desktop or in a file folder, if you dont have BOTH files in the same location you WILL get this error "No additional applications designed for your device were found." Connect your BlackBerry to you computer via the USB cord.

*** Make sure that you have BOTH the .ALX and the .COD files in the SAME LOCATION, or you will get this error.***

4) Open the Desktop Manager (DM), let the DM recognize your BB.

5) *** This is the MOST IMPORTANT step you can ever take***
Click on Backup and Restore. Then Backup. Whenever you add or delete something to or from you BB, ALWAYS CREATE A BACKUP!!! It will save you life one day.

6) After you have made your Backup, from the Main Menu click on Application Loader.

7) Then click on Start in Add/Remove Applications

8) Now you click on the Browse... button. Click the Desktop button on the right (or goto wherever you have saved the file). Open the file, you should only see one file in there, the *.ALX. Double click or highlight then open.

9) Scroll down and make sure that the theme you downloaded has a check mark next to it and that under action says install.

10) Click Next, then Finish.

11) Let the BB be until it has rebooted

12) On your BB hit the BB menu button

13) Options, Theme, then click on the one you just installed

14) And now you just installed your VERY FIRST THEME

"Congratulations (your name here), Job well done."

If there are any mistakes in this Tutorial, please let me know so i can correct them

Once again, a member of our community stepping up to the plate to help fellow chirpheads in need. Very nice tutorial Casp. Definitely needed to be stickied. The 8350 forum is really starting to take off because of members like you and many many others.

One addition that I highly recommend:

After you install a theme and select said theme on your blackberry, REBOOT your phone by powering it down and removing the battery for a couple of seconds.

I've found that the themes make the phone run extremely slow unless you do that. I found that going from the blackberry icons screen to the home screen takes 5 seconds intead of less than 1 second unless you do this.

Yo if I do that though my phone gives me error messages! Its like my phone has to be loaded in default theme or it acts up really bad after a reboot!
