| | Will you buy the Tour, or wait in favor of Wifi?
First of all, this is a question I have been thinking about for a couple months now, but I'm sorry if this has already been asked.
Also, let me say that there is NOT a definitive answer as to whether or not a 3G blackberry actually NEEDS wifi because some people need it, and others don't.
The thing about this is, I've never had a phone with wifi, so I don't know how useful it is. Please reply with how useful you think wifi is on a 3G phone on a scale of 1-10, and if you think it is worth waiting for the successor to the tour (not the Atlas/Storm 2, I have no interest in that...) seeing as it is now common knowledge that all blackberries coming to VZW AFTER the tour will have wifi.
Also, how long do you think it will be until VZW gets a QWERTY blackberry that has Wifi AND 3G? (Just a guess, I know no one knows for sure!)

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think its VZW's policy to not allow wifi on any of their devices

It has been announced that all VZW BBs after this one will have Wifi.
I have a VZW phone with Wifi (Touch Pro) and I almost never use the Wifi. The one time I might miss it is on an airplane. There is a Micro SD card that is coming out this month that will allow devices to have wifi they don't have it, so that is an option if it comes out and works on the Tour. Spectec microSD WiFi Card - Spectec microSD WiFi Card
If I were you I would get the Tour - it might be a while before another QWERTY BB comes out on VZW with wifi. When it comes out you can always upgrade. Plus it isn't that important and you might be able to replace that function with wifi micro sd card.

I would just get the Tour sans-wifi. Seriously with EVDO available virtually everywhere, what's the point of having wifi? I have it on my Pre and the only thing I use it for is OTA updates which the BlackBerry doesn't do.

First of all, thank all of you guys very much for your responses so far.
Let me just remind people, though, that verizon has stated that all blackberries after the Tour will have wifi.
Also, if you were to estimate, would it be 2009, 2010, or 2011 before VZW comes out with another QWERTY Blackberry after the tour?
Also, it seems that wifi is not used very often, but do consider that it is useful outside of the U.S., on planes, and for faster browsing where available.
Either way, keep rating, as your advice is very helpful!

I will certainly not wait. I travel internationally frequently, and do not care about wifi on my phone. Netbooks fit that role quite nicely, are much more usable than a BB anyways if I am on a plane or in my hotel room.

The manufacturers website only lists Windows Mobile as supporting this card. I don't see RIM developing support for this.

Still nothing replaces a decent sized keyboard on a netbook/laptop.

I will be buying the Tour. More than likely if I can not get service from Verizon than there is a good chance that I will be somewhere I can not receive a Wi-fi signal either. At least this is in my case. Can't say this will hold true for people working in a steel building or below ground level.
