| | New to the BB world. Worth it to wait on the Tour?
Forgive me if this is posted in the wrong forum.
I currently have a dumbphone thru Verizon that is dying. I have decided to replace it with a Blackberry after having tried out friend's various Windows Mobile devices and Blackberries.
I have also gone to a Verizon store and tested/played with the various phones for some time. I really like the functionality of the Blackberry devices, except for the Storm which one of my co-workers has because I just couldn't get used to it. Anyway...the 8330 seemed to have all I was looking for, but then someone suggested I visit this site to learn a little more and in doing so I see everyone going ga-ga for the Tour. So my question is, as a novice to the BB world, is it worth waiting for the Tour or will the Curve be a better first Blackberry?

this will be my first blackberry too, but if you compare the specs of both the curve and the tour, the tour wins out. it's a "stronger, faster, better" blackberry, from reading the forum it has a better screen, the ultimate blackberry keyboard (bold-esque) and a 3.2 mp camera, just for aesthetics. and apparently the guts of the whole thing is amazing, but i'm not too techie so i'm not really sure about that.
however, i think it's worth the wait, a bunch of people (not trying to generalize) on THIS forum are upgrading their storms and curves to the tour when it comes out.

To be honest with you, you should wait for the Tour. The 8330 is a great phone, but it is over 1 year old on Verizon and the original Curve (on the GSM carriers) is over 2 years old. The Tour will be very similar but better in almost every way. It will be a good first BlackBerry. Heck, you basically hit the CDMA BlackBerry lottery with your timing for getting a BB.
Anyways, I say wait it out, you won't be sorry..and if you have any troubles, people here will help you!

I would say yes wait for the tour over the curve. the new platform and better hardware should be worth the wait. plus it will be about the same size and pack more power. the omain difference between the 2 will be $$$. the curve is at a lower price point and will most likely suit your needs. if they price the tour the same as the storm when it came out then you are looking at about $200 for the phone before the "new every 2" discount.
I hope it helps a little. but i would say it depends on your patience and your wallet.

Thanks for the replies. Not sure how long my current phone will last, thanks honey for dropping it in the river, but I guess it will be worth the wait for the Tour to arrive. If for no other reason than I will be able to test it in store in direct competition with the Curve.
Expect to be seeing a lot of me on here asking for advice/help after I get my BB.
Thanks again....

my opinion is to wait..
the curve is a very good device no doubt..
but the tour trumps the curve by quite a bit..
the curve is getting older in the lineup so its more likely that the tour will be supported longer..
its really your choice..
but here is a few things you should know
the tour has more application memory for installing apps on it then the curve does..
application memory is also similiar to RAM on a PC meaning you have to have free memory for the device to run smooth..
having more allows you to keep the device running smooth and have all the applications you need.
It has a higher resolution screen which is crisp and very good looking compared to the curve.
also the curve does not have 3g data speeds and has a lesser browser then that of the tour...
really its your phone so its your choice..
but the tour is really a huge upgrade from the curve.

Thanks again.... | If you have to, pick up another phone on Craigslist to hold you over until the Tour releases. I bought a used Pearl 8130 for $50 to see if I liked having a Blackberry. Best money I ever spent and now I don't think I could go back to having a dumb phone ever again.

If you think it will end up in the river, get the Curve. If not, wait and pick up the Tour.

Many of us have waited for about 4 months. The Tour is just about 2 weeks away. If we can wait this long, I would think, or at least hope, or at least encourage, you can wait it out just a little bit. |

I say wait . I'm not a blackberry owner as of yet but the curve is already old to me even without the release of the Tour. I have a Palm Treo 755p and I can not wait to get a new phone. It seems like I've had this phone forever and I am over the OS on it. I am on the countdown. Only 22 DAYS TO GO TIL MY ADDICTION BEGINS , hopefully, we'll see. If BBs are as great of devices as everyone on here say they are then I don't think it will be a problem.

If you Can Wait Do, if you NEED a phone, and can't get a loaner phone, then get the Curve, I do love my Curve, but am VERY excited to get my Tour, I will be running my Curve and a Tour together and slowly migrate the majority of my functions to the Tour, and just using the curve for work rather then everything I do.
As an addict I can say once you get your first one, you'll be looking at all the others non stop and thinking, hmmm do I want that one too? should I upgrade?? oh that has a nice XXXXX, so if you can hold off do, because you will get the Curve, and in a year you'll be itching for the tour, but if you wait for the tour, in 1 year the differences wont be ENOUGH to make you switch and you might get 2 years before your addiction takes you back into the store looking for the next BB
