I'm really not impressed by the Droid. I think the thing is MASSIVELY overrated.
But what it DOES get me excited about is the future of Android and its devices. The future is looking bright! 4g + Android sounds like a potential win to me.
The present, however...not as bright.

I stopped into VZW to get my S2 replaced after a bad screen.
The guy next to me was getting his Droid swapped out for the same thing.
What I noticed is that top row of keys against the screen is so uncomfortable and the keys are so small that it felt very awkward.
Definitely not for me!
I'll stay with my S2! |

I was reading some of the posts on this forum and just had to join in to add my 2 "sense". I am on my way back to the Verizon store after a week trial on the Droid Eris. Previously I had a BB Pearl and loved it but was taken by the new touch screens. The Droid is not the phone for me! The sound quality of the phone calls was horrable! I was not able to find any way to keep my e-mail & calendar up to date was to cable to my pc. I am hoping that the S2 will be better. Thanks for all your comments. It has been helpful for me.

The storm 2 is the same phone with the same problems. The major difference is that the s2 feels cheaper and more plastic-y than the s1.
s1: Solid brick
s2: Plastic POS

+1 for above poster. The droid has a few problems but the s2 has more. S2 screen is not good especially when compared to droid's screen. How can people say that the motodroid is so huge when it is basically the same size as the beloved iphone that everyone compares it to? Plus it has a slide out keyboard!

I played with it and I think I would prefer a Storm 2....I can't type on that thing at all.....
The one thing I loved was the Google maps on it....it was incredible...the voice search was soooo good...I mumbled at the thing and it understood me.

Can he state he don't like, sure, but don't try to tell or force me to believe what the OP will or will not like, it is a matter of opinion and he will not know until he tries for himself. |

If you are assuming that the OP will "love his S2" you're doing the same thing by trying to persuade him that its going to be the perfect device for him. So you're doing the same thing by trying to persuade someone's mind n shoving your opinion down his throat. I'd you would have said "i hope you like your S2" itd be totally different

so what did the phone lack that the storm 2 had? every person who's used android in any fashion (i personally don't like the droid form factor, i prefer the eris) has said that to switch from blackberry to android is sacrificing nothing, and gaining at least 10x in performance, stability, efficiency, etc....so besides fanboi-ism, what did you not like about the droid? i'd love to hear your opinion, it will help me in advising my peers and customers on the topic

Ok I feel like I should shed some light on this subject, being that I actually OWN a Droid and did not just play with it in the store.
I absolutely love the Droid. And this is coming from a loooooong time, super tech saavy BlackBerry user.
You cannot make a real judgement call until you actually OWN the phone and use it everyday. Yes there are things about it that take getting used to that are different from BlackBerry, but overall, RIM has to catch up with the rest of the smartphone world.
To hate the droid as the poster does it total fanboy-ism. And this is coming from a former Blackberry fanboy.
Here's the main difference between BlackBerry and the Droid. You can just USE the Droid. Meaning you don't have to keep constant watch over what apps are running, how many apps you have installed, all that kind of stuff.
It reboots in under 40 seconds. And the only reason i know this is because I pulled the battery JUST to see how long it took. It's been over a week since I had it, and this is the only time that I have had to reboot it...for my own test. And i've got at least 20 apps installed. The phone is still FLYING.
Install an app, uninstall an app, upgrade an app...and you get to keep using the phone. No rebooting required.
Listen guys I love BlackBerry just as much as you all do. My fiancee uses my Storm 9530, so I am still in the BlackBerry loop as she relies on me to keep her updated. Since I added a line to get the Droid, I could still early upgrade my primary line and was thinking about maybe getting the Storm 2 on it.
But that's just because I'm a gadget freak and still a crackberry addict at heart. I am totally on board with Android. It's going to seriously take over the smartphone OS world.
Again, don't take this as me hating on Blackberry. I love BlackBerry, always have, always will. There will always be a BlackBerry on one of the three lines that we have. But there will also always be an Android phone on one of those lines as well.
Blackberry and iPhone are no longer the be all tell all of smartphones.
Just thought I would share the opinion of someone who actually still loves BB very much. The Droid is everything they said it would be, and it's only going to get better.
**EDIT*** Let me also add this. People tend to not like things that are different than what they are used to. And the Droid/Android is completely different than the BlackBerry platform. If you are not willing to embrace something different, that's one thing. But I don't feel like you can completely down something just because YOU don't like it. If the Droid doesnt work for you or meet you everyday needs that's one thing. But to just bash the phone like that..you can't really be serious with that.
Droid does (no pun intended) what the BlackBerry tried to do with the Storm series...appeal to the business user who also wanted a "fun" phone. As a pure business user, yes, get a BlackBerry. But remember, there are also business power users like myself who are gadget freaks and want the true touchscreen experiece that the Storm series just does not provide.
Ok that's all

I think hatch totally nailed it, the platform JUST WORKS. I love my Bold and all but ill be serious i wont be buying another RIM phone until (maybe) the Magnum and thats if the touchscreen implementation is worth a god damn, heres hoping for a Zune phone still
If the BB platform works for you, thats cool but i like the fact that Android has a vast market behind it already and an excellent modding community as well (and its no damn different than CB hacking OS leaks or constantly checking to see if a OS has leaked).
A fellow co-worker got the Droid and i got to play with it, the thing is simply amazing (not enough to make me switch back to VZW) it really has some great hardware and software, i honestly would recommend the phone to anyone, and that is something thats a big deal now. The iPhone is popular not only because of its features but because anyone can use it, you dont need to dig thru menus to get **** to work or waiting a million years for a web page to load up.
