Talking Is there anything better than the VZNavigator??

I currently am pay x amount of dollars a month so that I can use the Verizon's VZNavigator on my BB Storm 9530. I was just curious if there was a navigation system out there that would compare closely to the VZNavigator (search, weather, directions, accuracy, etc...)?? I am kinda new to the entire BB world and any advice would greatly be appreciated!!! Thank you all!!!

nope. People will tell you Poynt, or BB/Google Maps do the same as VZ navigator, but they don't. VZ Navigator is great, and for me, it's essential for my phone. It's well worth the ten bucks a month IMO

Garmin makes software that loads onto your phone and turns it into a Garmin nav unit - voice turn-by-turn directions, searches for POI, gas prices (I believe), and maybe even traffice. It is $90-100, though it was $20 off for a while. I do not have it so I don't know from personal use how good it is, but I've read nothing but positive reviews from those that do have it. I would have bought it had I not already owned a Garmin nav unit.
So, obviously, it is not free, but you will paid more after 1 year with VZNav...and still be paying!

If you want more info, do a search for Garmin and I'm sure you'll find quite a bit of info.

i'd say you're paying $10.00 a month for an app that is optimized to be ran on your specific network and device. if any other service offered the same thing, it prolly wouldn't be free. nothing is going to do all of the things vz nav does without some bugs or something left out. especially not for less. and with vz nav, you can disable and re-enable it as needed. i only use it once every two or three months, so i disable the service when i'm not using it.

party, bonus.

VZ is a must for me. I love my turn by turn directions and its reliable too. For my business I travel all around the city, so its a must have. I cant be following a map on my phone, especially when I can hear what they are telling me. If that made sense. Its worth the money if you got it.

Ive tried all the free stuff and one other paid, but nothing compares to me.

I use GMM and have no issues finding things. Waiting on MS Live Search to be updated for Storm GPS to have additional capabilities if needed, but if I need to find my way to something, GMM is my free meal ticket.

I am using VZ Navigator and I really like this app. I especially like the feature where I can navigate to any address on my Contacts. I can do that from the VZ Nav, or I can just go to my Contacts first (without starting VZ Nav), find the person, then click the BB button to launch VZ Nav to that address. In my humble opinion, that is convenience and it is because VZ Nav has the HOME-FIELD-ADVANTAGE, naturally.

Many people on CB are using Garmin. I don't have one so I cannot comment on it. Please correct me if I am wrong, I believe you can down the software for a certain trial period. You can try it out and do a comparison, before you make any decision.

Other than these two, there are free software out there like Google Maps, Poynt, Nav4All, and amAzeGPS. But many of the free software are not as mature as the pay software like VZ Nav and Garmin, and they cannot do ALL the things that VZ Nav and Garmin can do for you..... it is still true that you get what you pay for.

But as I have always been saying, different strokes for different folks. A software that works for me may not work for you. A feature that is important to me may not be important to you. The best way is to do some comparison yourself and find out yourself.

In my humble opinion, if you can afford a $200 phone with $30 unlimited data plan, plus whatever amount for the calling plan, $10 a month is really nothing at all. You should set aside the fees or cost and judge the software by the functionalities.

Hope this helps.

Both BBMaps and Google Maps have that same ability. What's your point? The only home field advantage that VZNav has is that it has a few capabilities built within the program whereas with the other free products, you sometimes need 2 or 3 to get the same job done. However, when you consider just how large of a program VZNav is, sometimes (depending on apps used) 2-3 3rd party free apps take up even less space then VZNav does, and on the Storm (with it's limited app memory) is a good thing.

I use telenav. I like it better than vz NAV. It is 9.99/month. I believe vz NAV is actually made by telenav just with a different wrapper. Telenav is a clean great NAV option. Highly recommended

another advantage of VZN is the traffic feature.

but as the title asked, a portable GPS would be your next step.
