Mobishark is utter complete garbage. I downloaded it last night, and still cant get it to work after repeatedly contacting their "help desk" and emailing them. They answer neither their emails nor their help inquiries. So I paid $50 for unworkable garbage. Don't get burned like I did - stay away from this with a ten foot pole.

Well, their utterly helpless "help desk" finally chimed in that they recommend Google Chrome, which of course, makes it now impossible to make a connection. What a program! Don't you just love programs that require a PHd in computer programming to work out all of the bugs when you recieve them?

OK, here I am at day TWO at trying to get this monstrocity to work. We had it going for about an hour last night, after I allowed their computer programmer remotely go into my laptop to change a number of settings. After all of that, my trial period abruptly ended at 9 am this morning. They sent me my registration number for my laptop early this morning (four days after I paid for the permanent program), but have not sent me anything dicipherable or usable that might indicate what the registration number for the Storm might be.

So after two days of working on it, and a remote session of reprogramming my laptop, I am still unable to get this utterly worthless and mindblowingly complex piece of **** program to act as a modem. I can't get their so-called "Help Desk" to give over my goddammed handheld registration number, in spite of sending them my handheld PIN # no less than six times today.

A word to the wise: Do not waste your $50 on this unusable program.

dude sorry to be an a$$ (not really). but stfu an stop flaming sharkmodem already.. it has a free trial that allows you to try before you buy to avoid negative customer rants such as this... its kinda your fault for not trying first now isnt it...

also, have u thought that maybe the app on your storm doesnt need a serial. after all it does connect to the app on your pc...

last but not least.. mobishark is a proxy server... it sets up a proxy on your pc that you have to redirect all internet traffic through.. go to internet options >connection settings> lan settings and fill out the proxy server as localhost and whatever port is set in the sharkmodem server.. (3187 or something i think by default)..

i do agree that the program lacks compared to tetherberry or pdanet but i reall think you just need to not impulse buy and do a little more research first,..

This software is completely useless. I tried to resolve this with WireShark Media LLC and they refused to refund my $50 investment. I used Paypal and they do not have any authority it purchased outside of ebay to refund your purchase for item such as this; therefore I am completely out $50.
Next time use a credit card. When PayPal won't protect you, your credit card company will. In any case I PDAnet is the clear winner for me only because it has always worked for me with windows mobile and now with BB. Also very good support as I lost my serial and couldn't remember which of my email addresses I used to purchase it under. They were able to find it for me no problem and resend my serial.

Quickie: I read through all 3 pages of this thread (great stuff btw), but didn't see any fellow Mac devotees chiming in. I've perused PDANet's website (which looks like it was designed circa 1994) and didn't see anything Mac specific. Could I have missed it? In reading through their simple to follow installation instructions step #3 I believe prompts for a file d/l to your computer. Out of curiosity I clicked the link and down came a nice, compact .exe. Completely useless on my Mac, of course.

In any event, have any Mac users successfully installed PDANet and gotten it to function properly? If so I'd love to know how you did it so I can take advantage of their trial. Thanks.

Default Tetherberry Bug

I tried tetherberry. Overall, it worked well. However, you cannot upload large files. I have a file that is about 4MB, and I was using simplicity to upload it to my computer at work. It locks up in the middle of the transfer (everytime!). I have to reboot my BB (8830) to recover. It is really bad that PdaNet does not make version that works for 8830. Such a pity.

I contacted their customer service from Tetherberry. The rep eventually escalated to their engineer, who basically said it was a known problem without current solution. I asked whether I could continue my trial until they fixed their problem. No reply. Emailed again to customer service, no reply. They don't even have the courage to tell me "no."

Beware when you buy tetherberry.

Cool PDANet

Hey vbprof, even though PDANet only talks about the Storm, Tour, & Bold, give it a shot installing it on your set-up and see if it works. If more and more different BB Abusers would do this it would motivate June Fabrics to invest more time and support to us. Be daring, a lil wild and go for the gusto. And if it does work your in, if it doesnt work it may be the peiece of the puzzle they need to get an edition for the 8830.

And for those curious few I have a Storm 2 that i tether to my travel laptop, but am to chicken to try a bluetooth tether.

if anyone has words of wisdom i would appreciate it

I've tried both Mobishark and Tether, think Tether is much more reliable due to the speed. However their customer support is lacking. So far only replied my email once. Mobishark's customer support is better but beware that they do not offer a refund. True said that Mobishark is working as a proxy so beware of potential tethering bills. I'm awaiting my next bill to see if I'm going to be charged before making a decision to purchase the app for my Storm2.
