Default Garmin Mobile = Worth it?

I was just wondering if Garmin Mobile was worth the 80 dollars. I know it's a much better deal then VZ Navigator in the long run, but I still can't seem to justify the 80 dollar price. Is it worth it?

I have a few questions for you Garmin mobile owners. The main differences between Garmin mobile and other nav apps seem to be that is has a great GUI and voice turn by turn. Are these the only differences? I do use my navigation a lot since I have a horrible sense of direction and travel to new areas quite frequently. Google maps is probably one of my top 3 most used apps.

1. How does it compare to Google maps, BB maps, Nav4all, AmAze. Right now, I use Google maps cause it is fast and accurate. The searching is great and best of all it's free.

2. Are there any bugs? What are the goods and bads?

3. Can you sync Poynt with Garmin mobile? Do you even need Poynt if you have Garmin mobile? lol.

If I get enough positive feedback in this thread then I will purchase the app today but I am really 50/50 right now.

The only other paid apps I have is Dynostorm (cause I'm a car guy) and a few Tafasa apps (cause I think they make some of the best apps/games for the Storm and provide great feedback and updates and great bundle packages). I am still not sure the Dynostorm app was worth it cause I don't know how accurate it is yet and that was only 13 dollars so you can see why I am hesitant. Since most of my friends have hacked iphones and t-mobile g1's that have a great number of free apps and games, I don't want to be rediculed for spending 80 dollars on something that they could get almost as good for free.

Thanks for the help guys.

P.S. - How do you delete Flickr without hooking up your Storm to a computer? That icon is so annoying but I don't want to move it to just another folder cause I know it'll be there. I use "I took this on my phone" and it is much better. Yea, I could just ignore it but I'm weird. Lol.

I don't believe you can ever get rid of the icon, but you can hide it

Sorry, can't answer your flickr question, but I did buy Garmin Mobil. I only have VZnavigator to compare it with. It is worth every penny because I travel a lot in my car and wanted the voice feature, which works perfectly. Besides, I plan to keep my bb awhile and didn't want that added cost on my bill. It works as good if not better than my husband's portable car garmin.

I have it and love it. Just throw it on the front seat and it tells me where to go. No more squinting at maps.

Hide it. It is just a shortcut.

Garmin Mobile is awesome I love it, I just wish you could download area maps to your SD card so it worked when you didn't have cell service.

I'm currently in the 7-day free trial...the only issue I've had so far is with changing the views from 2-D Up/North and 3D - I've only got one view, for whatever reason.

Everything else seems to fit inline with the regular Garmin units (which I loved, prior to switching over to VZ Navigator when I got the Storm on launch day). Like you, I just couldn't justify the $10/month.

I've tried BB maps and Google Maps, both...my biggest gripe is the lacking ability for voice turn-by-turn, as well as navigating while on a call. Garmin Mobile has both features, and does them well.

I've yet to make up my mind though - going on a cruise this weekend (3 hrs each way), so that will be the REAL test...

I have it and like it, but be aware that if you've ever used a dedicated GPS device, then keep in mind that running Garmin Mobile (on a Storm at least) is very slow to recalulate if you miss a turn. I also own a dedicated HP GPS that is lightening fast to recalulate compared to the Garmin Mobile. Simple solution is...don't miss a turn.

Other than that my only complaint is that you can't listen to the directions through a bluetooth headset like you can with VZ Navigator.

Thanks for all the feedback guys especially mychair. Recalculating is pretty important for me. I guess I better not miss a turn then. Lol. I think I'll purchase it later today then since I haven't read any negative feedback.

One more question:

With all the Storm 2/Tour news..if I decide to switch devices will I be able to move the 80 dollar app? Lol. I'm afraid if the Storm 2 does come out in the summer, I will be switching to that and want to make sure that the app comes with me since 80 dollars is almost a 1/3 of the price of the phone without rebate.

In terms of my P.S. question, I'll move Flickr to my junk folder for now then till I can remove it permanently. I hate unused icons.

I'm worried about the Storm 2 thing as well...it clearly states on their site that the $80 is good for the life of the DEVICE.

I figure - worst-case, I can try to recoup some of the costs of the software by selling the device via eBay or something claiming "Garmin Mobile installed" - IDK

It's probably my favorite app on this phone. Well worth the $80. It's also awesome for finding all the things you need when on the road...gas (with prices), hotels, food. Very easy to use as well.

Worth every freaking penny!

It took me around known congested areas in Orlando in January and Baltimore last week.

My favorite app...

BT works fine for me. I believe there was an OS issue at one time, but has been fine for some time.

I have garmin moblie on my storm and love it. If the price has you thinking to buy or not to buy. With vz navigator you have to pay $9.99 a month if you buy garmin after 9 to 10 months it will pay for its self. 1 year of vz navigator = $119.88 a year 1 year of garmin mobile = $80 and year 2 of vz navigator = $119.88 year 2 with garmin mobile = free.

I've used VZNav, amAze, and Garmin. I almost bought Garmin, then I found amAze. It works really well, I was surprised since it's free. I'm still putting it through usage to see how I really like it, if I don't, I'll get Garmin.
