Default Goodbye Storm

I am saying goodbye to my Storm. I have been a faithful owner since getting mine and have diligently done every upgrade that has been posted. While I did see improvement with 5.0 I was still having problems and I just couldn't rely on my Storm. Due to all the problems I was having with the phone I couldn't even think about the Storm 2. I did go and look at one. But I didn't think it was all that different. So, I bit the bullet and did an annual upgrade and got the Droid and I have to say so far it is a wonderful phone (Sorry Blackberry owners) and it is fast. I will have to see what it does over time, but so far so good.

Thanks, Crackberry for all the great information that you all put out on your site.

I went into Best Buy (where I initially bought the Droid since the Verizon store refused to sell me one at retail price this past weekend...I know, weird) and got things straightened out. I brought in the email. The rep there hadn't heard about it yet but believed me, talked with someone at Verizon, and they approved my account to upgrade. So, I essentially returned my Droid and re-bought it, but instead, as part of a new two year agreement. It saved me $430 so I'm happy. I got everything for $213 after tax, no activation fee or anything like that.

I'm glad Verizon threw this offer out to existing Storm owners....or at least a subset of them!

Yes, but still wondering what qualifies certain customers?

From what has been posted here and on other threads and forums, it appears to me that VZW is rolling this out to a limited number of Storm owners at a time, with the intention of offering to all Storm owners before they're done.....no way they could discriminate by allowing some to upgrade and others not....

VZW probably didn't want a mass of Storm owners hitting their stores at once and depleting their stocks of Storm2's and Droids while they are trying to push those to new customers...

Also probably smarter for them public relations-wise as well to not make too big of a deal about this and have to explain to media, etc. about why they are admitting Storm1 was a poor device (to some anyway)....

I'm going to hang tight and use this extra time to check out the S2 and Droid to see which way I want to go....everyone be patient and we should all get our chance to upgrade pretty soon....

Didnt get the email, but went into the store cause my s1 will not work (screen goes dead all the time) they didnt offer me a S2 or Driod, although I tried. but they did say I could get an early upgrade at a discounted price. bad thing is they do not have any S1's in stock. guess I am stuck with a bricked phone until they get em in.

I received my e-mail offer Monday but don't plan to act on it. I am VERY happy with my storm and the new 5.0.0.328 upgrade software.

Wink

I didn't get the email either (guess my $125.00 a month doesn't qualify me) but my upgrade is next month so we shall see... I'm thinking of the Droid but will need to wait and see how the reviews are on it, before impulse buying like I did w/the S1 (who am I kidding?)

Those of you who have called in and had success getting an upgrade, did you call the number shown on the picture of the email or did you just call customer service (*611)?

I'm pretty happy with my Storm (esp with OS 5.0) but am always happy to get a new device, and the Storm 2 felt better when I used it in store.

I did not get an early upgrade email. I called *611 today and asked what they have to offer storm 1 owners who want to upgrade. They asked if I am having any problems with my phone, to which I explained a few sort of intermittent problems. They apologized, and said that I'm not eligible for an upgrade till one year from the date of purchase (day after S1 release), but that they would make a note on my account indicating that I am eligible for an upgrade as of today. They said tech support could talk to me about it and if my problems can't be fixed they'd send me a new S1 (not an S2). I didn't push the issue, and will have to debate whether it's worth $179.99 for the S2.

I got the offer today in the mail. Not sure if it is worth it going from S1. The most annoying thing on my S1 is always being low on memory.

I already posted in this thread about how I called only a couple of days ago and was told I wasn't eligible. I got the promotion in the mail today saying I am. So, I guess I get to upgrade. Btw my one year is up in January. I only have the 450 min plan plus data. I don't see any pattern other than what someone else already posted... That they are rolling this out in batches.

I got the a flyer in the mail today. Chucked it in the garbage.

I paid $179 for the S1 nearly a year ago and nine months later, the price was down to $49.99. So I'll wait for my contract to expire, then we'll see what kind of deal I get. Don't feel like watching that happen again and, besides, I'm perfectly happy with S1.

I received my chance to upgrade to droid,or Storm2 Friday morning in an email. I'm going to have to really check out the droid before I make that leap...the Storm 2 is out of the question,It's not the phone,it's the OS that is the Windows ME of phone OS's....I keep waiting for Microsoft Bob to pop up on my Storm screen.
