| | Goodbye Storm!! Clear Skies Ahead!!
YES!! I went down to Verizon, bitched enough, and they gave me a Droid for free..
I just have to say this past year with the Blackberry Storm has been my absolute worst nightmare..
I've been through every OS update, every workaround, every hybrid.. Pulled that damn battery hundreds of time, if not thousands, and had my phone crash under every single circumstance imaginable. It was a crack addiction.. Just one more HIT.. ONE MORE OS UPDATE! And this phone will work LIKE ITS SUPPOSED TO!!
Still the dream of having 3G Coverage under verizon was something I had to persue..
The storm was barely functional as a phone - pathetic as a media player, a sub-par browsing experience, and I wouldn't touch that camera with a 10-ft pole.
After two days with the Droid it's amazing to have that safe feeling of knowing.. MY PHONE WONT CRASH.. Things work as they are supposed to.. and above and beyond that its everything storm users have been begging for and wishing was in software update after update after update..
I'm never worrying about free memory, always have 10+ applications open at the same time, and my phone is nothing but an absolute joy to use. I look forward to any opportunity to pop its screen on.
My sincere message to anyone caughtup in the blackberry game, GET OUT!! Too much energy has been devoted to this black-hole of a device.. Stop wasting your energy and trade up to a device that gives back to you..
Goodbye CrackBerry!! IM OUT!!!! FOR GOOD!!!

Just wanted to add - I think Verizon is under a lot of pressure to move the Droid into peoples hands.
It was ridiculous easy to convince the manager to let me trade to a droid for free.. From a storm 1 no less.
If anyone sympathizes now is probably the time to trade out.

[QUOTE=z06mike;4053768]Good. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
I loved how when I clicked your name and viewed your last posts, your last 40+ posts are all explaining to people work arounds for failures in basic functionality..
Kudos to you for being a blackberry saint, but MAN - It shouldn't be like that!!
Best of luck to you,

Hope it works out for you.
Glad you're happy.
BlackBerrys are not for everybody.
As for the Droid's camera being better.....
It seems to have some glitches of it's own. But hey... my wife got her's on it's release date. She likes it thus far... but she, like me, is rather leary about the Droid being a Motorola (now if it was an HTC ). Plus we're not a fan of the slide-out keyboard... the buttons are just too flat without any contours to them.
But time will tell what we think about the phone as a whole.
Again, congrats on your decision.
Enjoy!

How does that Droid do on push emails? Am kinda interested in one myself.
How much trouble did you have to give them to get that Droid for free? Any tips?

$Matt | My sentiments exactly! Especially the crack line. "Just one more OS and it'll be great".
I went to Verizon yesterday to check the Droid myself. First thing I did was use the camera that had got such horrendous reviews everywhere. It was as slow as my Storm camera is now--and that's the bad news. Everything else was like lightning. Lightning I tell you! The only thing that kept me from negotiating for one is that I want the world phone capability that the S has. When and if I decide I can live without that, RIM will just be a memory of one of the few poor products I ever owned.

have fun with the new phone though | I'm sorry, but my eyesight is a bit blurry from looking at the computer screen too much today and when I read what you posted, the "c" and "l" in "click" looked connected so I thought it was the letter "d" and I almost spit my water all over the keyboard!!!

How do OS programmers code for "dummy-proof"? Maybe the programmers of the Droid should get an award of some kind.

How much trouble did you have to give them to get that Droid for free? Any tips? | I have it set up to download and notify me of emails every 5 minutes. It doesn't push immediately like the blackberry, but if i'm in a crunch rush situation where I NEED that kind of feedback I can always hit the refresh button.
A fool-proof way on upgrading for free from a Storm to a Droid is to return the phone three times in two months. After that, ask for a new phone- make sure your complaints are related to the Operating System. If you complain about the touch screen and are on a Storm-1 then they will only offer you a lateral upgrade to a Storm-2. Otherwise they will hand you a droid if you ask for it. This is official policy according to the manager i talked to.. You can also charm your way into it as the manager has the right to override this..
Other notes:
With regards to the keyboard, the slide out keyboard sucks. But the virtual keyboard with the extra screen realestate works amazing.. I have it set to vibrate with every key press so I get tactile feedback.. Slide out keyboard is great when you are dealing with massive forms/application and need screen real-estate. It's like a mini-laptop.
One thing thats really great about the camera is the video.. It shoots incredibly decent video at DVD resolution .. 720x486. That's just amazing to me.
And another unexpected part about the droid is how well google voice is integrated with the GPS! .. I talk to my phone all day-- "Navigate to 331 Broadway" "Order Pizza" "Reviews of Where the Wild Things Are" "Show me pictures of pink ponies" "Map of Disneyland".. "Call Annie Cell" .. Immediate reliable response and it understands me 95% of the time.
It's wild..
Someone here mentioned a serious con which is it's only CDMA so its gonna suck when I leave the country next.. I totally understand how that's a dealbreaker for many people.
But man as someone who has been burned as much as I have with the storm this is OK with me..
No disrespect to storm lovers, but how many commericals did verizon release of the storm where you could never get the same basic functionality as what they showed on the TV.. ugh!!
RIM KISS MY ***!!
