Default Flashy UI and non Flashy UI at the same time.

Do you guys think that it would be a good idea for RIM to allow two choices of how their User Interface reacts. The basic OS that we have right now could be a choice and a really flashy UI could be another choice. I dont know how many of you are familiar with myspace, but Myspace gives you the ability to use the traditional simple myspace layout, and the new version of myspace for those people who want it updated and more flashier.

What do you guys think? Should there be a future choice for those who would rather a basic UI and those who want the fun UI?

As in have both installed on the same device and let the user choose? Or as in, release two UIs but only allow one install at a time? Having both installed would be more expedient, but it would also require at least double the app memory. It'd be nice if they could design a flashy overlay that interfaces with the standard BlackBerry OS (like what Windows 3.1 did for DOS) that could be switched on and off.

I think it would be cool to have an option. I could see something like that in the future if the UI is overhauled to focus more on the consumer base. RIM probably would still keep the basic OS primarily for business and the new "cool" one focus on average consumers. Kinda like computer OS where certain ones focus more for business use and then their were variations for home use. I think it would be great.

It would be nice to have an option to keep the OS dry as dusty bare bones like the brutal looking curve/bold OS iterations, or keep the transitions that the storm has now which leads so many to cry out that it is slow

edit: you beat me to is scorp. I agree with ya there!

like have the option to switch back and forth, because while the normal OS is boring, if you had an option, it would feel more comfortable because I think that being able to decide would benefit many people. When its business time, a simble UI layout would be perfect, sometimes simplicity is beneficial. When your in the mood to be entertained, completely transform your UI into the flashy version. Wouldnt it feel good to be able to do that? Like theres a time and a place for everything, theres a time and a UI for everything lol.

yes, i posted that in another thread about the UI. There are plenty out there that change the icons, colors, icon arrangements. When its in installed you cant even tell its a storm.

I think some people want every possibly screen to look flashy though. I could care less how my settings screen or whatever looks. Most applications look nice with their own design too.

Given that RIM can't make its current, rather basic OS work properly I think splitting their efforts between two OSs would result in two even more mediocre products. In theory though, I think your idea is pretty cool!

Its not impossible though. Having two ui and two os are two diff. things. This phones hardware can handle it just not the os. You would just need one better os rather than two.

The themes people create for the storm are top notch. I had the android one on until I got rid of it and if I had but one complaint its that themes add to the lag. If rim fixes up their OS some then the rest would be handled by the community for the flashiness

yeap true....thats the thing about it, i dont care if someone gets offended by me comparing storm to the iphone, but hardware wise the storm has much higher capabilities than the iPhone. Yes iPhones OS is on point, but the hardware installed in the Storm that contributes to the software has a great potential to outshine the IPhones OS capabilities. Ive already accepted that the OS on this phone was obviously not complete, but it doesnt bother me because that just means a more complete one is out there to come. As of now im fine with the way my storm is and will wait for the improvements to come.
