Default Tutorial: How to upgrade to Storm OS 4.7.0.151!

Hey guys,

Since I upgraded my Storm's OS to .151 yesterday, I figured I would write a guide on how to do it. I know that it's been posted around here multiple times now, but I figured I would compile everything into one article, as well as explain the differences between the operating systems that I have installed since I received my Storm.

Check it out, and let me know what you think in the comments!

mobilitea.com/blog » Blog Archive » Tutorial: Upgrading to BlackBerry Storm OS 4.7.0.151

Thanks,

Great Job on the guide!

The first thing I have noticed: Those not in the know, may not have any idea that they would need to uninstall any previous blackberry operating systems from their computer.

2nd thing, Backing up your 3rd party apps is as important as simply running backup on your BB.

Other than those couple items, the guide is a gem.

Thanks for the useful reply.

I'll edit my post to note that people should uninstall any previous operating systems and back-up their third party apps.

Default What's the harm?

So I just finished following the instructions and everything has seemed to work perfectly, device is rebooting right now. I didn't uninstall previous OS's first. Why is this important?

I will be using this tutorial as soon as I finish downloading the device manager and software. I know this information is available elsewhere but I dont have the time to search through pages of threads looking for it.

Thanks for compiling the tutorial, I will post my success/frustration when I have finished. :P

Watch out civic you might get called rude for stating the obvious. I guess we have to be more understanding to people who start threads that have been done before

My head is spinning. I could swear there are two threads by the same person on the same topic. Am I wrong?

There's a sticky that has the COMPLETE guide on how to upgrade and downgrade, so I'm not sure how much searching you would really be doing

I believe the main reason for doing this is so that you DM or apploader doesn't get confused as to which OS you want to install. There have also been problems when trying to load .151 using DM and many people have said they're computer only sees .148 or anything lower that they still have on their computer. Personally I don't delete the older OS's mainly because I forget and I switch OS's occasionally so I just complete space and forget. As long as the install goes fine, I'd say there wasn't a need to uninstall them. Just remember how to do it in-case you would need to do it sometime.

I installed .151 on my pc but it shows .148. I uninstalled all previous OS's and reinstalled .151 and Desktop manager like 5 times and still shows .148.
I never had any problems installing previous OSs.
Anybody ever had this problem?

Did you restart your computer? That might help...

obviously you are not uninstalling 148 or your not installing 151.

Delete DM and any OS installed on the computer, reboot, install DM again, then reboot and install 151.

thanks for the tip. it finally worked. it could've been this, or disabling the firewall or manually deleting all the RIM files or just reinstalling everything for 151 times
