I have been saying this for months. People are attacking and blaming the wrong party. What you say above doens't hold water. Everyone knows that the manufacturer submits the device to the carrier. It is then up to the carrier to decide to cert the device or not. Just look at AT&T. They help up the Bold, at the dismay of RIM. But it wasn't ready and they did not release it.
The bottom line is Verizon wanted to get this device out for the holiday season. At the expense of it's customers.

No, RIM has NOTHING to do with an OS getting released, either officially or unofficially. Dont blame them if you hate the phone, or you want a higher revision to come out. Blame your provider.

RIM DOES NOT leak their own software, period.

VZW/Bell/Telus test and release builds that are complied by RIM, and only they will put out an update. Again, complain to them if you dont like the phone but insist on keeping it (It blows me away the amount of people on here that complain, yet keep the product).

If your running an OS leak, lets say .110, and your provider releases OS .110 as an official upgrade, ITS THE SAME THING! No matter how far in advanced you got .110, its the same build. Any change, whether large or slight, requires a new revision.

There, end of many stories. Put a fork in it. I think its done

Oh, one last thing (thank you OLTA777) Want to know when an official update will come out, before anyone else?

GO ASK YOUR PROVIDER. No one on this site, especially in the know, will tell you. Plain and simple.
If you're John Q Customer, experienced in IT and have spoken to someone whom can clearly prove they know what they are talking about (this is where your IT experience judgment comes in) they (the VZW tech) will have explained clearly that a phone you are aware of but is not yet released is in "testing" and possibly has been for months. There's nothing to read between the lines. When VZW feels it's ready it will be available. Period. This does not necessarily mean all the bells & whistles are in place but the product mets THEIR level of standards for release. It may not even be as good as they would like but still meets the company's standards.

Not at all trying to start a iPhone vs Storm discussion but as an IT professional of 20+ years and never even touching an iPhone (no ATT coverage for one) it falls short of MY standards. We've become greedy people that expect too much too soon.

I ask you ALL this. Is there ANYTHING perfect in your life? If you answered anything other than NO, you're lying!

You want to complain about something, how about the simple fact that a business phone company that RIM is does not have the ability to store & organize messages instead of worrying about how fast your phone locks or unlocks or why you'd pay $500 for a 4.5" level. Grow up people & stop shooting yourself in the foot by alienating those in the know but cannot say much due to their NDA's.

Just a quick question, someone earlier tonight mentioned that RIM basically sends out newer revisions on an as needed basis. Basically they send them to the provider who in turn beats the revision to death with a stick until they decide whether or not it meets their qualifications.

Is this correct?

So it would be safe to say that if Verizon was going to push .113 they would not be working on .115 while finishing with .113.

And I am glad they did. I waited 3 months for this phone. No, I was not happy with it in the beginning but I gave myself 2 weeks to learn blackberry and when .75 was released 2 weeks later, I have been happy ever since. I feel like the phone was made for me. If they had'nt rushed it I probably would have gotten another phone and not a blackberry. They waited long enough. After I realized that it could get better with software, I've been happy tinkering, and running betas and waiting for the next official. And the next, and the next. I am here for the long haul.

Verizon pushed the phone out to get big sales from it. Especially starting off with black friday weekend. They made there money but the product is leaving a LOT of unsatisfied customers. And I would think that a person thats purchasing a BlackBerry, would be somewhat tech savy. If not, they wouldve ditched it long ago because you can tell the OS is designed easy to use, but definatly has the smartphone expierence and your average person wouldnt adapt to something that confuses them.

Verizon shouldve got on the ball and realized something like this would happen. What they did was release a phone with a "sub par" OS and knew it, and still wanted to make that money. Your average customer that hasnt used BlackBerrys and installed Leaked OS's, become extremely disappointed. And I can see why. For us leaked betta users and expierenced BlackBerry addicts, its not to bad for us. We understand and know things take time. Kind of like thinking about yourself (in the now) and being greedy, instead of thinking about what the future or "possibly" could happen. Think ahead is the key here. But we love the service Verizon offers and the network is outstanding. Thats why people stick around. And Verizon probably knows that because of how good there network is, they can get away with it.

For us sticking around, its good because I can tell you right now from my opinion. The jump from .75 to .113 made THAT much of a diffrence to see how the phone can only get THAT much better. Once I started installing the leaks, It was like the phone was totally diffrent from when I first bought it. It was definatly fun to use. So us Loyal BlackBerry fans simply wait because of our love for these phones. Im addicted like most on here are.

Now when the Niagara comes out, Ill be switching between that and the Storm.

Default 4.7.0.122 seen operating today 02/04/2009

I work for Vodafone and just had a colleague come visit me, after he in turn had been visited by a RIM rep. He now has 4.7.0.122 on his 9500 which the Rim guy had put on for him. It was amazingly fast and smooth, and apparently Vodafone Netherlands will be the first to launch 4.7.0126. Trying to get him to send the RIM rep to me!

It speaks wonders about the normal quality of RIM products that a phone that works as well as the Storm does is lambasted like this.

Yes, it has its quirks and some features that definitely need enhanced. But it is still a remarkable product. We know RIM continues to write code and improve upon it. I sincerely hope Verizon pulls their collective heads out and gets the better builds out, even incrementally.

Also here for the long haul.

My ultimate hope for the Storm is just that RIM allows developers to take advantage of the Graphics unit inside. Even if they didn't though I wouldn't really mind.

It would be awesome if apps could be placed on the 1GB device memory or the 8GB micro sd though

Yes, Voda UK has been testing .118 and .122. I'm not up to date on Voda netherlands, but that sounds about right.

Hey CX, someone said yesterday i think that VZW has only tested 1 OS so far, and that was .113. that does not make sense to me, but figured it would not hurt to double check from someone that is known to be reliable... can you say?

Damn.. that .122 .126 info makes me jealous.

Seems sometimes as though the 9500 is receiving all the good stuff before the 9530 crowd or maybe that has just been the case for the last set of releases.

I suppose it would make sense that Verizon doesn't get handed like 8 different OS versions to test all at once, but that they are given something to test for potential release once RIM is comfortable enough to provide Verizon with a potential release candidate.

I have a question for either Sith, CX or Radio if you guys can answer.

Does RIM test the builds themselves before sending them to carriers before testing?

Look at the 1XX builds for the 9530. The GSM data connection is awful, i find it very hard to swallow RIM would give VZW a build with such a glaring flaw in the Storms functionality.

Thanks.

I think they do some testing before sending out. I don't think they make it then send it out the same day with no testing.

But you gotta remember the builds for Verizon were not made to specifically run on a GSM carrier. It was made for CDMA, so they will most likely run better on CDMA than GSM bro.
