Thumbs up OneOfaKindDPC's V5 Testing Grounds/Findings Thread

Hey all,

I saw there was a few threads going so I felt it was better to consolidate everything into one thread. Here I will keep everyone updated on the latest versions/information. I will make improvements or changes based on the feedback/advice that is posted by you, the people. Because after all this is the people hybrid and should be to the people's liking. And as Jason put it, you're all VIPs to me

ABOUT THIS HYBRID
This hybrid is a hybrid of hybrids. It consists of 151 files, Lyricidal's 5.0 files, files from v4 of my hybrid, plus some other tweaks I have added all over .148 to bring the whole things together. This hybrid, like all my others, is slimmed down. In other words several none essential programs have been removed to allow for the most possible free memory without out degrading the functionality of the storm. Please read the list of things removed before installing this hybrid as you have the ability to add the things I removed back into the OS at the sacrifice of whatever memory the programs added use up.

Here's a list of all items removed:
(used the terms from Lyricidal's Shrink An OS to make it easier to reinstall things that were removed later on)
All Language files that are anything other than English (sorry its all I know)
AIM
Facebook
Google Talk
ICQ
MSN
Yahoo (there are 3rd party programs that can make these all possible with only a fraction of the size)
Flickr (debating on whether or not to add this back in)
Docs To Go (Sheet, Slideshow, and Word)
Application Center
Default Background
Default Ringtones
Event Log Viewer
Help Files
OTA Upgrade
Password Keeper
Setup Wizard
SIM Card Capabilties
TTY
Vodaphone Music App
VZ Nav
Vcast Rhapsody
Brickbreaker
Wordmole

Download Shrink An OS by Lyricidal

-Locate your 148 directory where you should have the hybrid installed (X:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\9530-v4.7.0.148_P4.0.0.181
-Place the 'Removed Files' folder into the 'Java" folder
-Run Shrink An OS
-Browse for the 148 folder
-Check the items you want put back in
-Click 'Put It Back!'
-Install the OS

Downloads:
5.95 - 9530
Here's a change log for 5.95:

-Switched the radio to 132, but left the option of having the 148 radio there in the CDMA folder
-Added a Tools folder consisting of Lyricidal's Shrink an OS, Build a Hybrid, and Swap a Radio programs
-Added password keeper back into the hybrid, no longer has to be added in later.
-Moved the Removed Files folder into the Java folder to avoid confusion and make it one less step for those who wish to add things back in.
-added in bbcm's fix for the issue with the suretype

http://www.theiexplorers.com/bb/uplo...ybridv5.95.rar - zipped

http://www.theiexplorers.com/bb/uplo...ybridv5.95.exe - Installer

Thanks to Lyricidal and theiexplorers.com for the host. Thanks to Randyrkelly of BBOS for helping me get this version out.
9500 - 5.91

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service - Zip

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service - Installer

There is only 1 file in the java folder that is 148, everything else is either 151 or a 5.0 file.

Added back in the 5.0 fonts (didn't mean to get rid of them) making it a total of 10 files from 5.0, 1 148 file, and the rest is 151.

Updated the remove files folder with all 151 files.

================================================== =========================================
5.9
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service - RAR - ZIPPED

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service - EXE - Installer
Almost all the 5.0 files have been removed. The only 5.0 files that are in 5.9 are the browser files (about 8-10 files)

The majority of this hybrid is 151, I added in the 8 or so 148 files needed to make 151 work with the 9530 and added in the 8 or so 5.0 files for the browser.
================================================== ==========================================

Version 5.85 (released 6-22 11pm)

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
removed about 20 5.0 files, this has improved the overall stability and improved the battery life/memory management.

Added in the alx files that were supposed to be in the 'Removed Files' folder that was not in 5.8.
changed the alx files in the core of the hybrid from 132 to 148, plus one 151 alx file.
The known issues are still there:
up swipe doesn't show the keyboard
when locked the vibrate/silent mode button is mostly for show
the green box when taking a pic isn't there (doesn't effect picture taking though)
Video Recorder doesn't show time until you stop the recording (doesn't effect recording)
================================================== ==========================================
Version 5.8
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

Here's Version 5.7

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service - ZIP

I made a bbcrackman like installer for those who wish to use that.

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service - EXE

The good thing about it is it runs better then any other version so far.

The bad news is that there's a slight issue with the camera. It takes pictures fine, but the box the shows up before you take a picture doesn't show up.

Version 6 is now out. updated 6-4

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

I'll add the change log tomorrow.

Test 5 is up now.
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
Changes in version 5:
-Changed the phone app files
-Changed a few files to improve reception
-Re-added the media fix that was in version three
-Added the 3 5.0 browser files (of 10) that were replaced by 151 files in v4) to bring the speed back up.
-changed versions on a few misc files

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service - Test Version 4 (updated as of 6-2)

Changes in Test 4:
-Most of the bbcrackman stuff was replaced with 151 files

================================================== ========================================
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service - Test Version 3 (Updated 6-1)

Changes in Test Version 3:
-Added the media/audioboost fix
-Changed keyboard to an earlier version
-added 9 files from the 151 leak (gps, startup, launcher/loader files)

I'm going to add more details about the hybrid (things I removed, etc) once I knock of work for the day (on break at the moment)

Until then I'm sure if there are quite a few people who may be able to answer any questions you may have till I return tonight. I'm not I will answer them as soon as I can. I'm also going to work on instructions for installing for those who are having trouble.

Thank you for your time. Thanks to all the supporters, all the people who could make this possible. There's not telling how long the need for hybrids with be, so let's enjoy it while we can.

ENJOY YOUR STORM!

Funny you should mention that One. You wait til "that" hybrid is released, then basically copy the files "that" hybrid has and pass it off as your own. But then again, you have done that for every one of "those" hybrids that have been released. And if your claiming that CB is your testing grounds, then why would you claim on another site that there site was the exclusive site for your Hybrids. Doesnt sound much different than your claim about the VIP's.

I'm pretty sure that that is what we're all doing anyways, isn't that how these hybrids are made anyways?

I mean all I'm doing is taking something that works and building upon it to improve on it even further. And to take it a step further, its not like i get paid to do this, I do it because I enjoy it. Its not like I'm taking money out of bbcrackmans (or am i?) or lyricidals pockets.

If you paid attention to the thread on the other site you would have saw that was version 4 of my hybrid. Besides the people are the ones who are important, doesn't matter what site they go to. If they own a Storm they're all VIPs.

So in other words if you came to my thread to badmouth me go make a rant thread somewhere far away from here.

On another note, you know you're doing a good job when you have haters.

**** him dude. I like your hybrid's. And yes I do mean YOURS. Everyone is copying someone else's work, RIMs, and altering it to what they like best. I try them all and I have to say I like yours the best. Keep up the good work. No one is getting paid for this. If you don't like it don't use it. I don't care who's work you're building off of. The fact is is that you're BUILDING off of it not just a copy of the same thing. Have a nice day haters.

I just upgraded from the original test version to V5. The update seemed really quick and just said updating some files. How can I verify that I am running the V5 as opposed to the original test version?

Everything seems to be running ok, just not sure if it really did the upgrade.

Err... just wondering, (because there are slight bugs)... what media player are you using in test 2 of this hybrid?.. if it is .148, is there any framework (other than .148) or whatnot that affects its smooth running?..

How about the fact that "those" hybrids are the most self-hyping marketing scheme created. Encouraged to purchase a VIP membership to download something anyone can create themselves with a little know how. Any incremental gain "those" hybrids claim to have is hype and placebo.

One-of-a-kind and lyricidal have provided the same without the suspense and hype.

Lol, that is great. All a hybrid is, really, is an assembly of working parts. It is easy to see what bbcm is using for individual modules/ apps, and One has obv decided which of those work properly and put in his own choice for ones he saw deficient. More people testing= more feedback= more bugs worked out. And as he stated, he isnt asking anyone to pay for these... I may have been hyping the VIP portion of bbcm's hybrid (pay to play early) but it was only to prove the point---that there are others who are turned off of that system. I understand that they need funds to keep their site up, but I think more would go if they believed, and couldnt get the same info posted over here (that a bbcm hybrid is coming or is not up, posted by one of their mods). But thanks for making this great hybrid one, I feel like a VIP running it on my phone

Taterfry: the media is 148 but there are a few framework changes. Are you having problems?

My pleasure Phil, happy to do it.

The first post has been updated with more information about the hybrid, what programs were removed from the hybrid, and how to get things that I have taken out back into the OS.

ENJOY!

Can you tell me how to verify which version I am running, as posted earlier, my update went to fast, not sure if it actually updated anything from the original test, to V5.
