Default I am having problems upgrading my software. Could this be the problem?

I have searched through all the forums trying to find an answer to my problem and posting is my last resort.
Im not to computer savvy so maybe yall could help me. I have a Storm 9530 running a v4.7.0.148 (4.0.0.181 Platform). My carrier is Verizon.

When i connect my Storm to my computer, DTM doesnt see it. I have tried DTM's 4.6 and 5.0 (i havent tried 4.7 yet). It still asks me to connect device. I have rebooted, hard pull on the BB battery, im logged in as an administrator, im using a USB from the back off my computer and nothing!

When i look in the DM it says COM3 disconnected. While i was trying another way to get it to work, i noticed in my Control Panels modem setting that under the COM3 listing it read "Conexant D850 PCI V.92 modem". Could that be the problem? Is COM3 taken by another device?

P.S. Is the new 5.0 software worth going through all this frustration?

are you using desktop manager or loader? Have you installed the new OS on your PC? Are you using your carriers latest OS or a leaked version of OS 5 and did you delete the vendor.xml file?

I have the DTM, DM, and loader down loaded on my computer. I havent been able to find the link to down load the new OS. I was on Verizon and BB website and the only thing i could find to download was the DTM, DM, and loader. I dont know any thing about deleting the vendor file.

When i connect my BB to my computer the batter on my BB has the lighting bolt going trough it. My computer doesnt make a alert like it usually does with my digital camera, PSP, or ipod.

I have tried that. It just brings up the "Check for up dates link" and then bring up the loader. The loader doesnt reconize my BB either.

Is the device possibly a refurb/replacement unit? I recently helped a guy (unsuccessfully) who had almost this exact problem. We never did get it resolved and he told me it was an insurance replacement.

Tie your phone to a rock and toss it in a lake. Problem fixed.

Have you had success yet?

If not, maybe you can try to see if BBSak sees the phone? If it doesn't, it may be that the phone has a defunct usb port.
