Exclamation How To Install New Os With Windows 7

First off, thanks to whoever posted the thread about not upgrading using windows 7.... that is right, but I believe I have found a way round the problem.

I attempted to install .103 to my storm, about 5 times, each time it would get no further than loading JVM stage... With my storm completely bricked, I went to vodafone, who kindly replaced the battery (huh who knew!?) and my storm was back to normal.

So being the fool I am, I attempted the upgrade again, thought it wasn't really the battery and was proved right. Storm bricked again.

Then I noticed that Windows 7 has some funny ideas about who should have what rights to the "program files" folder, and that during the install of my BB desktop software, I had had to run as admin to allow the installer access to that folder.

So the fix

1) Before or after installing the Desktop manager and your desired OS (it doesn't matter which, I did it afterwards but it should work if you do this before) take ownership of your Program files folder.

2) to do this, right click on program files, go to properties, security, advanced, owner, and click edit

3)Change the owner to administrators

4)Press ok, then close and re open the properties dialogue box

5)Again go to the security tab, click advanced and then edit on the permissions tab

6)set the permissions for administrators, creator/owner, system and trusted installer to full control and make sure you select for all subfolders and files (drop down box on the top right) it is very important you set these permissions otherwise windows will not be able to access this folder, all **** will break loose, four horsemen of the apocolipse etc...

7)After you have done all this, (each permission change will take time to apply to all of your program files) click all the ok's untill you have closed all the dialogue boxes

8) I the used Apploader with the /nojvm switch to apply the patch... full instructions for this part can be found in the BB101 section on the how to reinstall the OS on a bricked BB thread

Let me know if this works for you, or if this is just a fix for my computers (it worked both on a laptop and a custom built desktop...

Good Luck

I just put Apploader in XP SP2 compatability and ran as administrator in the 7022 build of W7. Phone is running great.

Good stuff! Bricked mine 3 times before I noticed it must have been windows 7 (luckily have XP machine nearby so I was able to restore it easily).

I'll try this next time! (Bring on the next 9500 build!)

I also wonder btw if the latest string of Windows 7 updates fixed this problem instead?

I managed to lock it the last time, but checked the compat for xp mode and it worked! I did get those updates though, so maybe it was that. Still, I'm excited!

Default .109 won't install

I have W7 installed on my computer and using the procedure how to download .109 from .103 my DM will not find or recognize it. I have tried at least 10 times and my DM says my only two upgrades are .65 and .75. What am I doing wrong. Someone send step-by-step instruction on how to install .109.
