For install instruction to load any carriers 95XX OS on your BB:

2. Install/run OS to PC
3. Delete vendor.xml file. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader (If your not on Orange UK)

5. Do not unplug BB during the process. It will take around 30-60 minutes to complete upgrade.

Excellent idea considering the leaked versions are out in fill force. You know the next question will be how do I go back if I want to. Nice preemptive strike

P.S. Good to have you as a moderator CX. Always have appreciated your help (sorry off topic).

Crucial, here is a stupid question, I guess. You say in your directions that 'make sure the only OS installed to your computer is the one you want on your device'.
Well, I just installed .85 to the computer and now put it on my device. My question is this; when the next operating system, let's say .95 comes out, do I just install .95 to the computer and go from there, or do i somehow have to 'uninstall' OS .85 from the computer first. And if so, how do I uninstall?

if your comfortable with what your doing you can have multiple OS's installed and choose what one you want.

However, based on Crucials instructions, just go to Add/Remove Programs in Windows and you will see "BlackBerry Device Software 4.7 for 9530 Smartphone"

Uninstall that

I suggest only keeping one OS installed to your computer at a time; the one you have installed to your device. You can have others saved to the computer, just not installed. I have a folder in My Documents labeled BB OS, and keep them saved in there just in case. But when it comes time to upgrade againg, go to Control Panel on the computer>Add/Remove and uninstall the current device software. Then install the new and upgrade.

hey all,
just thought id let you know i just got back from the Verizon store (not my normal store a different one) I was talking to one of the managers about the storm because he owns it also. He told me that he had word of the next update coming on the 15th of january. Now i know most of the verizon employees will say anything to make you believe what theyre telling you is true. However i tend to believe this guy for two reasons:
1.) he is an owner of the storm and has had similar issues as all the rest of us
2.) he was actually very knowledgeable not like most of the idiots that work there

I find unbelievable (but possible) that VZW will push the next update to the limit of the trial period for Storm owners...not fair

That is the exact date that I keep hearing members throw around, but we can only wait and see!

Default Trial Period....

For me the Trail period is moot. I have already made up my mind to keep my Storm. Yes it is still a bit quirky (Leaked .85) but I can see the Storm only getting better. As I read in a thread somewehere today, the Storm's hardware is miles ahead of the OS so I am willing to wait for a better OS.

What if you are not comfortable installing the upgrades? Will someone in the store do it? I dont know too much about the phone yet, and messing with it by upgrading is a little scary. Will probably screw it up!!!

They might do it in the store. You should have the wireless upgrade option on your device and it will uprgrade itself. Upgrading is not difficult. Heres the directions:

First back up the device--> Plug in device>Open DM>Backup/Restore>Backup.

The download the OS from the link above. After it downloads, double click the icon and it will install to your computer.

The plug in device>Open DM> and you should be prompted to update.
