I know it's been a long time coming, but my real job has been getting in the way of my secret life as keyboard crusader. I also took my time on this one because a lot of changes have happened. I also wanted to make sure that this would be a final revision of sorts to this particular amalgamation of this theme. This is as clean as it's going to get. I may add a new ship type version here and there, but as far as mechanics and aesthetic this is it.
I would like to give theme developer rorshack (creator of the enso theme) a huge shout out for throwing me a bone of knowledge on how to FINALLY get rid of ALL icon text in all 3 screens. This was monumental as it opened up all kinds of new avenues for this theme. I will let the pictures do the talking:
There you have it.
So here are a few notes on this before you decide whether or not this is for you:
1. THERE IS NO ICON TEXT BELOW THE ICONS. If having text under your icons is imperative for you to use your phone this definitely not for you. If you like seeing the hi/lo temps text under the weatherbug icon, this also is not for you. Icon text will still show up in the banner when you focus on them in the application screens (same goes for weatherbug).
2. THIS WORKS BEST WITH 12 ICONS MAX. Like the earlier renditions of this theme, how many icons you use dictates whether or not this looks like a LCARS interface or a scrolling sheet of icons on a wallpaper. As big as getting rid of icon text was, this is something I cannot change. I have skinned almost all the icons, and now that there isn't any icon text, third party icons don't stand out as bad either. There are plenty of ways you can arrange icons with this new set up, just as long as you remember to keep it to 12
3. ICON ORDER: Top Row 1-4 Bottom Row 4-8 in both home and app screens.
And, there it is.

Because this process has been so time intensive, I have put to sleep the Custom Zen version of this theme. It just would've taken too much time to put together and I also thought it would be redundant. This is basically the same theme with 2 more icons and a hidden today screen. Not to worry, currently underway is the development of the entirely new Custom Zen interface which will be a complete departure from this theme. INSTALL NOTES:
1. Download .alx and. cod file to a location you can remember.
2. Start Desktop Manager.
3. Go to Application Loader and click on Add New Application.
4. Browse to the spot where you put the .alx file and select it.
5. Click Next.
6. Once the phone reboots shut down DM and disconnect.
7. Open options on your phone and scroll down to theme and select the LCARS Official Refit you want to activate.
8. Let the theme load. Once it has loaded back out to your homescreen.
9. THIS NEXT STEP IS IMPORTANT: you MUST perform a physical battery pull in order for the theme to full "catch." Once you boot back up it should be there. You know when something ain't right when your screen doesn't look like my screen captures above.
10. Make cup of earl grey.
I hope everyone likes what I put together! I look forward to everyone's input and hope to develop more on this theme and others a time goes on and as it develops further I will continue to update this thread. I hope this inspires other novices out there to put something together and sharing with everyone else. Thanks for all the support!
================================================== =====================================>
So, I have spent the last few days researching LCARS design aspects pretty intensely with the intent of applying those aspects into an effective Storm theme. Being a huge Star Trek fan, it was only natural for me to turn my touchscreen "communicator" into a mini LCARS tablet so I can sit around in my ready room, sip earl grey, and bask in my geekiness.
So, I downloaded a few wallpapers I found on here that were fundamentally ok, but somehow never felt quite authentic. They were good knock offs, but I wanted something a little more exact. After about a few days of studying LCARS design elements, I fired up photoshop with the intentions of building a homescreen wallpaper that looked like an authentic LCARS control surface that integrated all of the native Storm onscreen elements. After all, a theme is only as good as the background its on.
The Result: I think I was pretty successful. Granted there were basic fundamental design aspects that had to be worked around (size, button placement, banner objects) I think I pulled off a pretty good attempt an authentic LCARS surface. This was done just with Photochop, the right color palette, and LCARS font.
I have tried to use Plazmic, to no avail. At this point in the build, it only frustrates me. But, I have gotten into the groove with pchop and I think I have the Okuda school of design theory sort of down. I have ideas of how I want my application screen, lock screen, and incoming screen to look.
What I was planning to do is generate wallpapers for each and wait for Plazmic to hit an official release to put one together. I figured, until then I might as well horse around with the design in the meantime. So, if anyone here is good with Plazmic, I will be willing to supply wallpapers for the theme if you would be willing to put it all together.
It would actually be cool if everyone that wanted an LCARS theme contributed with ideas so once we get a solid OS and build of Plasmic, we could all have few options for LCARS themes. I took it a step further and put together a sweet collection of LCARS samples for my ringtones. Ultrageek.
I would love to post my wallpapers, but this is my first post. I know this thread is useless without pics. So, help me hit my post requirement so I can post up what I got!
