Default Quick Launch Review

I was asked to give a review for the QuickLaunch application on my blog/forum site, Berry 365, and I thought i would share my opinion over here as well.

Here Goes:

For the past 24 hours i have been road testing the updated version of QuickLaunch. Lets get straight down to it. Is this product worth $4.99? The answer is a resounding YES, more on that later.

Ill give you a brief summary of what the application provides. It has been specifically designed for the Storm and allows you to set shortcuts for some of your features you use more aggressively on the phone. A typical example of this is being able to set one of the functions to text a specific person at the click of a screen. This is extremely handy if like me you text the other half quite a lot throughout the day.

This is how I have my QuickLaunch set up. You will notice the option DO NOT PRESS above that is just a quriky little thing i put on there it just takes you to my Facebook!

When i first read about QuickLaunch i didn't really understand what it was going to do for ME! Its not until you get it set perfectly to your needs that you realize how much time it actually saves you. It takes away the awkwardness of navigating to certain features on your phone. If like me you like a clean screen, i have 1 row of icons, then you will understand how much of a pain it is getting to a specific feature like the memory cleaner or even bringing up the phone book.

Another nice little feature of QuickLaunch is the ability to check system functions like Battery and Free Memory at the touch of a button... no more going to options to fret about how much memory you have!
It runs perfectly with the operating system and just looks like it should have been there from the start. It does make me wonder how all the brains at the BlackBerry headquarters couldn't think of this when designing the phone, but hats off to Erik he really has out smarted the folks at RIM.

The best thing about QuickLaunch, for me, is being able to program a web adress into it.... I spend a lot of time on the phones browser and most of that time is spent on 3 different sites. Now i have access to them at the click of a screen.

Above is the options menu for setting up QuickLauch the way you want it.

If i was going to score this product i would have to give it a 9 out of 10.... the only other thing that i would have liked it to do was get me a coffee ;-)

Peace Out
Marksy

A friend of mine just asked why I gave this product a 9 out of 10. I would just like to point out that it may have come across wrong... it was a bit of British sarcasm.

It should have read: I would have scored this product 10 out of 10 but it didn't have an option to make me a coffee meaning it did absolutely everything else i wanted it to do.

Its an awesome program

Thanks for taking the time to post that great review, dmarks83.

I found this thread while searching QL; I bought it yesterday; and love it.

Well worth $5.00 !

I just purchased it as well. I don't know why it took me so long to jump on this but better late than never. This app works great, it really is the best app out there I think. It has so many features, after I installed I realized that I could delete 2 -3 other apps on my phone because QL had those functions (quickpull, locktilt, capture it etc.). If you dont have it, get it. You will use it everyday, plain and simple.

Also, it works with OS 5.0.0.191 on my storm.

Talking Almost 100% Awesome

I was using Shortcutme but kept having problems with my permissions and IT policies. So I gave up on it and went to QL instead.

Verdict on the difference...QL is much quicker to respond and to setup. Though Shortcutme is very feature rich, it is almost bloated.

The only thing I would change about QL that the other has? I wish that I could make the quick launch use two letters instead of one. For instance, when you have two programs that start with the same letter, what do you do? Decide which is more important and worthy of the precious speed key letter?

I would prefer to have this be two letters deep...BB Messenger set as the speed key of "MM" and my other app that starts with the letter "M" being set to something like the speed key of "MN".

Again, this is one of the great things about Shortcutme that if implemented into QL would make it, well...priceless!

Default Quick Launch Praise

This is a SUPER HANDY Ap for my STORM 2! The best I've bought so far and well worth the price. It lets you set up shortcuts to anything you want, that you can get to on the home screen, if you choose to have the Quick Launch icon there (I recommend you do)

On the 9000 this ranks as my best and most often used app. The organizational opportunity at the click of a button is wonderful. With Reverie DW as the theme there is the clean screen I prefer and spacebar to open QL although the right side button is set the same). Way more than worth the price.
