I'm contemplating purchasing one from a dealer on Ebay. I'm hesitant as I am not sure if it is an older version or a revised one. If it ends up being an older version, will OtterBox have any issues replacing it since it wasn't purchased directly from them and from Ebay?

Do we have an idea of who cells the "new" vs the "old" models of the defender?

Just another comment on the OLD versus the NEW case.

I have "both." I just had occasion to remove my Tour from the case and since my CAMERA button, the one that was problematic on the original case, was not working well, I compared old and new. The current problem is that unless I really centered a fingernail on the camera button (right side convenience button), my camera would not open.

The old case had a really prominent rubber nub on the inside of the case in the camera button location. The NEW case had almost no nub. That explains why the camera would not be activated - there was almost nothing to hit the button. So I just swapped cases removing just a trace of rubber. My camera now works much easier.

As I wrote up higher, I also find the rubber nub in the MUTE button location also too slim and was not working properly. Since I rarely use the Lock button I'm not sure how that one works.

I still think this case is terrific protection but maybe it needed a few more tweaks.

I'm also wondering if the defender keyboard membrane layer fit on the commuter, that would make it very appealing

The trackball is NOT covered. There is a hole punched so that it is exposed. I believe, higher in this thread I mentioned enlarging that hole since I found that my trackball was not exposed enough and I was pressing the adjacent keys trying to press the trackball.

I think the membrane might be thin enough to fit under other cases but if they are a tight fit, the case might not close around it. It becomes slightly 3-ply wrapping around the back kind of like a diaper - a flap wraps around the bottom and there are two flaps, one wraps left and one wraps right so that the 3 overlap in the rear.

would the otterbox keep sand away from the phone if you used it on the beach?

while doing research on the otterbox defender for my tour, i recall coming across a review from someone that's in the same situation as you.

http :// gadgets.boingboing.net/2009/08/11/review-1-week-wotter.html

just remove the spaces. i can't post links yet.

i know the defender he has is for an iphone but it should work the same in any blackberry phone.

Any pics of the case in holster and also attached to someone? I am female and always where my phone on my hip, usually in a case with carabiner that I attach to whatever pants I am wearing. Am debating on getting the Defender with holster. How tight is the clip? how easy is it to remove phone? Does the phone in holster interfer with sitting etc?

I think this case would be perfect for those of us that work outside all day, but I need the functionality of the extended battery and Otterbox apparently has no plans for making cases that fit a phone with the extended battery on it.

You would think that it would make sense to have one, since those of us out in harsh environments are often not anywhere near a charging source and therefore need the bigger battery.

I love my Tour and I love it even more now since I purchased the Otter Box Defender Case. I think this is a great case, it adds a little bulk, but I feel better knowing my Tour is protected, and I like the added bulk, because the tour feels really comfortable in my hand. When the time does come to part with my Tour and move on to something newer down the road, and I decide to sell my Tour, it feels good knowing it will still be in Mint Condition
