Default Blackberry Tutorials: Hide/Show Hidden Dock – with buttons! (video)

In an old tutorial I showed you how to do a hidden dock a different way than this one. The other tutorial you would scroll up to hide your dock, however, in this tutorial, I will explain how to make it so you can press the back key (escape) to hide the dock, and the space bar to show it without loosing the animation! You can also change these to anything you want ($, *, #, etc). Feel free to download the file’s below to help you understand the video as you watch.

Why do it
Some people dislike having to scroll up to hide their docks and some prefer to press a button to hide it. There is another way to accomplish this, however, you loose the scrolling effect. Please sit back and enjoy the tutorial!

Download Files
You can download files at my website.

Please Note
You have to download the Blackberry Theme Builder tools onto your computer.
This tutorial will be using Composer and Theme Builder..

Watch the video.

Hi thank you for the tutorial. very helpful. Quick question, if you are using focus icons and you have it on one of the icons on the dock, then push the escape key to hide the dock, what happens to the focus icon and how can you move it to the profiles icon once escape is pushed. Is that even possible?

ok so basically there is no way to move to another icon through the SVG code. You just have to scroll away from that area to the next visible icon.

Thank you for the help, appreciate it.

if u hide the dock, you can't continue to scroll through those icons (I dont believe - I havent played with it). You can hide one dock to show another... Maybe I am just not understanding your question.

You got the question. I was just hoping there is a way that the moment you close a dock, and if the focus icon was on an icon on that dock, that you can tell the focus icon to move to another location like maybe profiles icon, all with the action of closing the dock and not having to manualy scroll there. I am guessing that is not possible and but wanted to check

Nice tutorial! The effort is much appreciated. Quick question. I've included the code in my svg file and everything works great. If I hit the escape button, it hides the dock as expected. If I hit the escape button again after the dock is hidden, it flashes the dock back out to the open position and rehides it...seems like a bug or something. Did I mess something up or is this expected?

Thanks

No - that is how it will work bc you are telling it through the code to start at 0 and scroll down to 90.... or whatever its set at.

That is normal.
