I'll tell you what It means. It means I'm going to go with T-Mobile from now on. AT&T, you disgust me.

^Hmm, I would not take it that for. Nevertheless, that is a pretty interesting move by ATT. I hope it works out for those who end up with the 8900.

That's just not right. Even though I like the new Blackberries that are comming out, I was still planing on using my 8820 for at least another year. I didn't see a timeline for this in the article. Any idea when this might happen?

Maybe this has something to do with why the 8900 has not dropped yet with AT&T ... As some of the replies to the article states, AT&T will have a HUGE problem with this move when it comes to business users who have older non-3G model blackberries. Or, on that note, how about "new" models of Blackberries like the 8320 which just dropped or the 8900 if it will still drop soon? The move would not surprise me though as this seems to be a common type of thing greedy corporations do from time to time. At the same time I hope they are prepared for the back-lash from such a move.

hey the link doesnt work for me. Ill try later but i think thats just gay. My dad has the first gen iphone and he will not like upgrading since he doesnt really like the 3g iphone cause the battery and i wanted a 8900 and the bold has 3g issues and also i hear the thing takes forever to boot. If i really had to get a 3g phone. I guess its the bold for me.

Well that's unfortunate. My employer uses AT&T for our corporate BlackBerry services and I was planning to replace my 8820 with an 8900 whenever it dropped because I like the smaller form factor, but I guess I'll wait and see what my employer does if AT&T does in fact downgrade their 2G service. Maybe I'll end up scoring a work-issued Bold at some point.

It was a likely progression as the 850MHz band is much nicer to devices that work on 3G versus 1900MHz. I don't really like it, but what are you going to do, you know? Kind of gives credence to the rumors that AT&T is going to skip the 8900 and move directly to the 9220.

Now, it looks like it is going to be a reality very soon. I could totally see ATT skipping 8900 and going to 9220. However, isn't there already some ATT branded 8900s out there?

Who knows what they're going to do, but honestly, going straight to the 9220 makes the most sense. The 8900 should drop soon, but let's say some of the rumors are right and it's April. Well, the 9220 is "projected" be ready right around there. So why would they release basically the same device only better a a couple of months later? Too much overlap and doesn't make sense.

It also kinda makes sense to ditch edge since its quite old and its 2009 and i think AT&T's new year resolution is to move onto 3g fully. But this is still very bad news to the people that have EDGE phones and do surf the web alot and especially those people who just upgraded to a phone that doesnt have 3g like the old curve and pearls and some other phones that att has.
It would be nice to have a 3g curve.

That is very curious. When I saw the ATT branded 8900s, I was sure this meant ATT would get it first before T Mob. Now, it seems from the latest info, that ATT has decided to go in an entirely different direction. I think it is a very good direction to head in, but it still confusing for this loyal ATT guy. I am sure it will work out in the end. Well, at least, I hope so.

I'm not quite sure what's up with them either, but atleast they're trying to advance the realibility of their 3G network, albeit at the expense of others.

AT&T is gonna have to do a lot of upgrading. Here in KY, right now there's only 3G in the bigger cities. LOTS of rural towers. I'm not sayin it's not gonna happen, just that knowing the speed at wich ATT gets (or doesn't get) things done, I'm bettin it's not in the near near future.
