I'm interested to learn how RIM was able to tweak a non-3G device to run faster on the network...

I believe new technology allowed for more "connections/channels" on the physical device to be available so that a data request can be downloaded faster. If I remember correctly the "older" EDGE technology used only 2 "connections/channels" to download data, while the new EDGE technology uses 8.

i think old curve bottleneck is on processor side, so a faster cpu on 8900 imrpoves browsing speed somehow

Yea, I think the processor was part of the bottleneck. However, on top of that, the EDGE speed was also improved as I mentioned in my previous post.

Does that mean the EDGE speed on my 8320 is the same now as what the 8900 will be? Or will the 8900 be the first EDGE device that has the -ability- to accommodate the increase of channels?

It was a hardware upgrade made to the 8900 so this isn't available on the 8320.

No it has to do with the phone, not the EDGE connection.

Your 8320 only utilizes 2 Channels, while the 8900 does 8. this is what makes it faster.

Well crapolla, I had forgotten about the faster EDGE service...and if it's THAT much faster...I may have to break down and buy the 8900 just for the fun of it. I couldn't justify spending the extra cash with "just" an upgraded screen, processor, camera, etc. But the network speed...now that's a different thing all together!

Yeah that's the thing, the 8900 is much more than just cosmetic improvements. It also has GPS and come pre-loaded with Blackberry Maps too.

It's going to be my first real blackberry (I've only had this used 7290 for a few weeks) and boy I can't wait!!!
