Default EDGE and WIFI

I'm not sure what the difference is between the two but from what I've read I'm guessing WIFI is supposed to be better. My phone shows on the screen both EDGE and WIFI, is this correct or is there a way to turn off EDGE?

EDGE is your mobile network (ie T-Mobile) and Wifi is the network your connected to like your home network or a Hotspot at a Starbucks.. edge means you don't have data services, but you do with EDGE means everything is working fine.

Wifi is better in the long run I think and much faster then EDGE and 3G. I'm sure lots will say different tho.

WiFi might be faster but the range is MUCH less than EDGE. So "better" is a very relative term in this case.

Also while both are on you can use data and be on the phone at the same time.

I'm in the UK and am paying for the unlimited blackberry internet/email package. Does that include wifi hotspots like the cloud or bt openzone? This is included on the iphone web package but i wasnt sure if that's just through 02?

So can i use 'paid for' wi-fi hotspots as part of the blackberry package?

On the 8900 if your WiFi is an active connection and in range, you should be UMA status. Edge and Wifi icons mean your only tmo connection.
