Gosh the horror of being PM'ed or emailed in the middle of the night with .48!!!

It's so disqusting that I've had to setup a special Alert Matrix alert, you know... to uhhhh errrr avoid such thoughtless notes from waking me.

Geez guys, enough with the "Don't PM me" stuff. It was funny the first time. At this point it's the same as asking for the beta...

I know who has it and he won't give it to me.

If I get a PM, I will be sure not to pass it on......

This a worrying trend. RIM seem to be making a whole scat od beta releases. This indicates to me that they are working through a series of bug fixes quite rapidly. I would not have expected this to be happening at this stage of the product development. With a ne product, you usually get a demo version, an alpha product (full of bugs), several beta releases and then maybe one or two Release Candidates (RC1, RC2). Patrick, you are a developper, what do you think?

It is not 'normal' that this far into the development cycle that we are seeing lots of minor releaaes so close together. It indicates, to me at least, that RIM are having several specific problems with OS 4.5

I have deleted .10, .18. 27 but I received .37 on 5/29, .42 on 6/9 and .44 on 6/20. Now I read that .48 may have been released on 6/23 and I know that .46 is out there. That is 5 releases in about a month (I did not get my files on day 1).

Worse, I posted a link from Engadget yesterday that said that the 9000 release had benn delayed due to, amongst other things, software problems. Here's the link Blackberry Bold release date delayed? - Engadget

I wish that we could help RIM out but they will only talk to their official beat testers and I don't think that many (there are some) of them are on Crackberry.

I'm new to all this, but I have to ask how these versions of software get out. Am I right in thinking that they are deliberately leaked to the likes of us to act as Guinea Pigs for the new software but without RIM bearing any responsibility for any problems or damage caused to equipment? If not how come they never find the source of the leaks and plug it? Even if they have a network of beta testers surely if they didn't want this stuff out there they'd work hard to find the person who is passing it on?

Hope this isn't too stupid a question.

Steve.
