Default App request: 8350i Direct Info Hide/Delete

Hello dear developers,

I have a Blackberry 8350i in the family that has a very annoying behavior that I would like to get rid of. I'm sure many other 8350i users would love to be able to fix this issue on their berries as well.

I don't know if this is doable, but if Facebook and other apps can intercept e-mail messages, my logic says this can be done.

This only happens when using the Direct Connect feature of the 8350i.

Whenever you are using Direct Connect with someone (called DCing for short), you and the other person are sending your contact information as an attachment with every single push of the direct connect button.

Most Nextel phones will ignore these messages if the contact already exists, or will only receive them when specifically sent from another phone. Unfortunately, most Nextel phones have the setting to automatically send your info all the time. This is what is causing the problem on the 8350i.

Every time the DC button is pushed, there is a new "Direct Info Received" message logged in the messages application. If the person on the other end presses the DC button 50 times during the conversation, you pretty much get about 50 direct info messages logged in your inbox.

On the very early version of the OS, these messages could be hidden by enabling the option to "Hide Filed Messages". Unfortunately on later versions, this no longer works and RIM has said they have no way of fixing it (from what I've read of other users talking to RIM and Sprint/Nextel about the issue).

Maybe this will be fixed on later revisions of the OS, but this is moving so slowly that I thought that maybe there is a quick and easy app that can be written to fix the issue. Maybe automatically all Direct Info messages, maybe file them somewhere, maybe be a little more complex and only keep one of the messages instead of 50 or more, or even better if the contact already exists ignore them/delete them and if the DC # doesn't exist in the address book, keep only one.

The only other option we know of fixing this is having every other Nextel user disable the option to automatically send their info. Since this would be almost impossible, or at least very difficult and time consuming, fixing the issue on the 8350i itself would be easier.

I unfortunately have no writing skills even though I've tried, so I'm putting this request here to see if someone is willing to write this for us.

I will post a link to this thread in the 8350i forum so that other users can chime in and correct my initial request if needed.

I am sure you can get a lot of testers if needed from these guys, and myself.

I know there's no such thing as a free lunch, so I will say that I would gladly pay a few bucks for an application like this, just for the frustration reduction this would bring.

Thanks!

PS. I have started a poll on the 8350i forum asking people how much they would pay for such an app. If anyone's interested head over to App request: 8350i Direct Info Hide/Delete
