So I had a few problems during my last OS upgrade, I just could NOT locate vendor.xml via C:/Progam Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/ AppLoader.

    Here is what I did:

    Click on Start >

    Search>

    All Files and folders>

Type in: under search by any or all criteria below: make sure you are searching local hard drive (C)>

Type: Reasearch In Motion and click search>

Only 2 results should be found: C:/Program Files and C:/ Progam Files/Common Files>

Select: C:/Progam Files/Common Files. This is the folder where most recently downloaded OS is stored>

Open the above stated folder, you will then see the AppLoader>

Open AppLoader and scroll to the bottom of listed Files>

Delete vendor.xml file and then close all open windows?>

    Disconnect internet>

Ensure you have backed up all information on handheld via DM>

Open DM and you will immediately find OS update available>

Load OS. NOTE this will take 20mins or so and you are DONE.

Why search just got to the proper folder and delete the vendor.xml file:

    Windows XP:
    c:/Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/Apploader/vendor.xml

    Windows Vista:
    c:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Research In Motion/Apploader/vendor.xml

Program Files (x86) is for 64bit Vista only. 32bit Vista is the same as XP.
