I installed it, but for some odd reason, it wouldn't prompt for update when I deleted the vendor.xml files. When I finally put my vendor.xml file back in the folder, it prompted for the update and my storm has never performed better.

It had an amazing affect on performance and I'm someone who is coming from the 75 leak. If I change the position of the phone from portrait to landscape it switches before I have a chance to count to 2, regardless of what I'm doing on the phone. Loving it so far.

jarvistoma - Yes you can put .76 on it, many people have. Make sure you delete the vendor.xml file, you can find it in your hard drive > program files > common files > research in motion > apploader

It is a really small file, but if you don't delete it you cannot put newer firmware that is not officially released by your carrier (AKA Verizon).

Your might not see that an update is available when you go to Blackberry Desktop manager, if it does not show it there you can go to the same folder the "vendor.xml" file is and use the "loader" program it should recognize there is a newer firmware ready to be loaded on your Storm.

p.s. You do have Verizon right? They ONLY carry the 9530 not the 9500, the 9530 supports CDMA, which is the type of cell phone towers Verizon uses, the 9500 only has GSM radios, not CDMA. I just noticed that you put storm 9500 in your profile information. If for some reason you really have the storm 9500 it will NOT use the Bell 4.7.0.76 software, there is a software update from Vodafone that is 4.7.0.78 (p.s.s. the .78 firmware will not work on a Verizon 9530 Storm)

I wiped and installed .76 on my Storm last friday (was running .75 leak) .

I have to admit I was a bit scared because at first it seemed to be a "downgrade" as the screen wasn't transisitoning very fast. Two days of use alte and it is back to normal. Whew!

Ahhh... so, I've downloaded the update. Got it started. Desktop manager won't load it.

I manually go over to get it started. I see .76 and select it and it tells me that its not avail at this time. WTF???

Did you delete the vendor.xml file?
program files > common files > research in motion > apploader

Also did you cut your pc's access to the internet before you launched desktop manager?
