Run Desktop Manager on your computer. Connect your Storm to the computer via USB Cable. Run the Backup Program in Desktop Manager. It's that simple.

Default Backup

I also try doing a complete backup but it always comes up with an error when it reached slides to go.....My main concern was contacts so using desktop I went to advanced and just backed that up....complete backup worked when I loaded desktop last month so I do not know why it is not working now.

Default Contacts backup

Using a Mac, I've always had difficulty with this. I now use gmail and have google sync automatically back up my contacts and calendar. Any changes I make to contacts or calendar, either on BB or via web, are kept in perfect sync in the background.

when you connect via desktop manager you can then sync with MS Outlook in addition to doing a "backup"

You can also fix this in DM by going to the backup/restore screen, then click Advanced, then scroll down to Browser Cache and click the Clear button. Now backup.
