Default Verizon released Pearl 8130 OS 4.3.0.97 - 2/26/08

**NOTE: Appears to be same version as the US Cellular release, therefore if you've already upgraded to USCC .97, there is not likely any reason to install this OS, in fact you will NOT be prompted for this upgrade in DM.

However, if you're still running OS .60 and you've been waiting for a "Verizon" upgrade to the 8130 OS, this is it.

BlackBerry® Software Updates

* Applications: 4.3.0.97
* Software Platform: 3.1.0.51
* File name: 8130uEFS_PBr4.3.0_rel170_PL3.1.0.51_A4.3.0.97_Veri zon_Wireless.exe
* File size: 97.29MB

Go to the link above, select Blackberry 8130 from the dropdown, click Next. Enter your phone number and click "Download" link that appears at the bottom of the page.

Instructions for installing on any CDMA 8130 from any carrier:

1. Ensure you have a recent version of Desktop Manager installed. 8130 Pearls shipped with 4.3, also 4.2 SP1, 4.2 SP2 can be used.

2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.

3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader (In this case, if you're installing the VZW release on a VZW Pearl, I suspect this step is not required.)

4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade only if you are not already updated to USCC .97

The could take ~45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."

If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Good luck.

Thumbs up Its done!

I just finished the VZW .97 upgrade. No problems, love the direct standby mode. It took 45 minutes start to finish, i did a load of laundry while I was waiting! Good Luck!

What does this update do, and will I lose anything I have installed on my BB? I know when I upgrade my Q OS, it basically reformatted my phone. Will this happen?

Thanks!

Anything on your media card is safe. All your settings, address book calendar, will be there. But before you do, in DT Manager, use the backup/restore utility just to be on the safe side. Which you should be doing weekly anyway!

Also corrects the issue with .60 of not being able to use VAD while the device is holstered. As well as reported better overall memory availablity / management.

Doesn't this also allow video streaming where .60 didn't?

The vid streaming with .60 is/was questionable... some folks report not being able to stream on .60 while others such as dacur I believe, are having no issues. So not sure whats up with that, but streaming def works on the later releases.
