    Newest OS release for the Pearl 8130 from US Cellular released.

    v4.3.0.170 (Multilanguage)

    Package Version: 4.3.0.170

    * Applications: 4.3.0.97
    * Software Platform: 3.1.0.51
    * File name: 8130uEFS_PBr4.3.0_rel170_PL3.1.0.51_A4.3.0.97_USCC .exe
    * File size: 97.29MB

    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...B58CE00D1194C9

    Select Blackberry 8130 from the dropdown and click Next. Then click the "Download" link that appears at the bottom of the page.

    Instructions for installing on Pearl 8130:

    1. Ensure you have a recent version of Desktop Manager installed. 8130 Pearls shipped with 4.3, also 4.2 SP1, 4.2 SP2 can be used.

    2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by executing the .exe file you downloaded. First ensure Desktop Manger is closed and the BB is not plugged into the PC.

    3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader

    4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

    The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once OS is done loading it will reboot (may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."

    Good luck!

    ****UPDATE****
    VZW did release a OS v4.3.0.97 If you have already installed the US Cellular .97 when you try to install the VZW OS you will not be prompt that you have a update when you hook up to Desktop Manager.

    Have you noticed any benefits over the Alltel .81?

    So far .97 seems same as the .81 release. No significant differences - positive or negative have been noticed /reported.

    Don't forget once you update you will have to go back in an re-delete the preloaded sample pictures. It will free up almost 2 meg. That's if you want to.

    The preloaded video can be deleted via DT Manager.

    How to delete the pictures.

    Got it Son, thanks.

    Another easy/quick memory freebie that I've sometimes forgotten after an upgrade. If you have a microSD card, go to Media>Options set Reserved Pictures Memory to 0 MB (default is 2MB)

    Ok one thing I noticed, and not sure if I set this to default somewhere before and forgot it, but when I go to delete an email, it doesn't give me the option to delete from Handheld or Delete from Handheld and Server.

    Any ideas?

    I've heard a few folks reporting shorter answer lag with .97 however I personally was not experiencing any noticeable answer lag at all w/.81 What OS were you running prior to .97?

    The biggest difference I have noticed so far relates to my post a few days ago about full screen video. With .97, the video playback will return to full screen after you pause, fast forward or rewind without needing to press *. Still no stereo BT playback for video.

    I'm still looking for more differences/improvements. will report if I notice anything more.

    I was using .81. I also noticed that the symbol screen is smaller and less laggy.

    Failing how?? The download link is valid, however RIM's server for these downloads is often quite slow. I'd suggest another try.
